Commercial Description:
Kolsch, the clean and refreshing beer style of Cologne, Germany, quenches summertime thirst. This pale golden ale with a lightly fruity aroma is cold-conditioned or lagered after its primary fermentation. More simply, our Summertime uses only the finest malts and German hops to create the perfect beer for hot Summer days and warm Summer nights.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. Cloudy light gold color with a dense white head and minimal lacing. Hops and fruit in the nose. Light-bodied with a crisp character. The flavor mirrors the aroma pretty closely. Straightforward with hops, fruit and light malt. The finish is clean and refreshing. A pretty good representation of the style.

Hazy gold with a moderate fluffy head, a little harsh on the palate for a thirst quencher. The citrus oil notes and forward hop bitterness, while crisp and inviting, adds more weight than I expect from a kolsch. Not that it’s like an IPA but it doesn’t have the delicate character of a German kolsch. Nevertheless, on a hot spring afternoon like today this comes across to me as a subtly bracing, Americanized-but-recognizable version of the style.

Yellow color with a fizzy fast fading head. Some slightly sour malt and grassy hops in the nose with a little bit of spice. Carbonation was a bit fizzy on the palate. Mild flavors that are a touch grassy and bitter. No real finish. Decent for session drinkin’ or party beer for the summer.

(bottle) very pale gold wiht nice white head. Aroma of lemony hops. Nice hops flavor, fairly light as one would expect in a summertime beer. A great beer to have cold on a hot day.

On tap at Clybourn: Soft yellow, thin head. Light, lemony, crisp. Kind of dry. Would be very refreshing if served a bit colder. Thanks to Ma Beth.
