COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

Very nice showing from a beer I didn’t know Goose produced! Quite assertive in the hop department, almost lip puckering. Overall, nice balance is reached. Happy to find and try! 12oz bottle pour.

On tap at Fraser's. The pour is a light copper, crystal clear works thin white head and some awesome lacing going on. The aroma is heavy citrus and pine with a strong malt undertone. The flavor is a bit lore malt oriented. There is a strong malt and piney resin presence. Very good and dry for a strong IPA. The mouth feel is a touch thin with a perfect amount of carbonation and a delightfully citrusy dominated aftertaste. Just a great IPA. This is an incredibly delicious beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Clear tan/orange pour, thin carbonation and an aroma of nice sweet hoppy oranges. Flavor is syrupy meld of hops, grapefruit, bitter orange rinds and dry hoppy alcohol on the aftertaste. Not bad for the price.

Bottle from Brunos. Pours clear orange / yellow with thin head and minimal lacing. Nose is citris and pine hops...taste is same plus some caramel; bitter middle and lingering aftertaste. Some booze but hidden by and large. Overall....good to very good IIPA.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy burnt orange, medium off-white head, exceptional retention and very nice lacing. Nose is resinous pine and tropical fruit (passion fruit and pineapple), melon, with some caramel lurking in the background. Mouth is medium dry, juicy tropical fruit (oranges, mango, passion fruit, grapefruit), white grape, mellow caramelly malt backbone, pleasant bitterness throughout, citrusy finish. Nicely balanced and I gotta say, I love the bottle art. Frank Lloyd Wright , were he alive and if he drank craft beer, would be proud of this tribute. Easily my favorite non-BCS brew from GIBC.

Ar: Roasted caramel, pine, lemon, and grapefruit rind - all at a medium intensity. Ap: Bright amber-orange, clear - medium-large very light tan head with good retention, leaves some foam sticking and a thin, patchy film. T: Juicy grapefruit rind and orange - lemon with very high bitterness, some pine and resin - medium-sweet - some moderately roasted caramel, a little toasty - lots of citrus pith on the finish. P: Medium body with high carbonation - finish is medium-dry. O: Well-made double IPA - caramel is a bit heavy, but the hops overall keep it in check - citrus rind and pine flavors and aromas are the most very prominent.

Btl pours hazy orange-gold color with a thick creamy off white head that lingers for a while leaving strips of lace on glass. Smells of citrus fruits, pine, dank cellar, tropical fruits, sweet bread, grass and a whiff of alcohol. Tastes of sweet caramel malts, grapefruit, orange and bread. Medium body, smooth creamy texture, silky mouthfeel, perfect carbonation and a dry bitter finish. Well balanced iipa that has very clean flavors. Its an imperial that doesn’t seem like one until you have had a couple. The 9% abv is hidden very well. Great beer Goose Island!

Bottled. Poured clear, honeyed orange with a sticky white head. The aroma picked up sweet honey and caramel notes with accents of fresh citrus and black peppery hoppage.. juicy and enticing. The flavor found sticky honey and lesser caramel at the core, with spicy pepper, citrus, and light grassy bitterness around.. finished peppery and warm, but the boozage didn’t take over. Medium-bodied, but fairly filling on the palate.. good feel and flow.. this was well done.

Goose Island always recommends a serving glass on the label. I went with a snifter instead of the recommended pint glass! Pretty standard on the nose as fas IIPAs go. Flavor is fresh full of hops. Really chewy and sticky on the palate. The resiny bitterness is counter by a malty sticky sweetness. I wouldn’t call this ’balnaced’, as the sweetness and bitterness are both on the extreme side. But that is what I expect from a Imperial beer like this and I’m glad that Goose Island stepped up for this one.
