3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a mostly clear orange-amber with a thicker khaki head that settles to a film and leaves some nice clingy, spotty lace. Nose involves a nice pine and tropical fruit perfume, lots of pineapple, some mango, candied citrus, some spice, some sweet grainy stuff. Pretty sweet, decently bitter. Medium to full bodied, oily, soft yet pretty active, a bit syrupy, finishing somewhat dry and hoppy. Pretty decent, drinkable at its size, nice aromatics, but itís a bit too sweet and syrupy.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Complex, sweet beginning that eventually gives way to a clunking aftertaste. Evolved nose and a floral bite. A radically ambitious brew that doesnít quite get everything right.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to Alemax. Pours clear bright copper orange with small white head, settles rapidly with sparse lace. Aroma is piney, resinous, light citrus hops, slight hay. Tastes bitter, citrus hops up front, fading into bitter, resinous piney hops, hint of alcohol with a slightly nutty, toffee, mildly sweet finish and bitter, resinous, aftertaste. Soft to moderate carbonation with medium body, lightly oily finish. Shame itís not a fresher bottle.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A really nice double IPA! The Illinois pours a light copper color with a substantial off-white head. The head leaves a cascading, sticky lace around the edge of the glass. The nose is full of fruity hops, but balanced nicely with some caramel and bready malts. The body is perfectly drinkable, smooth and well-balanced. The only characteristic of this beer I donít really care for the overly malty finish. I get a little too much rye-type of flavor toward the end of the flavors. Other than that, this impy IPA is a real winner!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz bottle, served in a tulip glass. Pours vivid orangish copper with thin lacy white head. Aroma is sugary sweet caramel malt and lightly floral bright citrusy hops on the back. Taste is is heavy sweet dark caramel malt with sharply bitter hop finish. Thick, rich, sweet, and plenty strong, the 9% even seems a bit conservative. Along with the hops, it balances the sweetness out nicely. Goose Islandís regular IPA is nothing to write home about, but this is quite nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear caramel color with a medium cream-colored head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is toffee, citrus, and a hint of cat pee. Flavor is initially bitter, but with more candy and malt than expected. Smooth throughout, with a mouth feel that is just a bit on the thin side before a nice, tart finish comes through. Overall just a touch sweeter than expected for a double IPA and thatís not a bad thing in my book. Very drinkable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a clear orangish-copper, with smallish head. Strong pine floral hop aroma. Flavor is strong, bitter citrus-piney hops, hops, hops. Bitter, bitter finish. Not a lot of balance here, but if you like a strong hop flavor, this is for you.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark orange transparent color with small white head and messy lacing. Flavor has huge citrusy, fruity hops, grapefruit, and oddly enough- chocolate chip cookies. Flavor is very bitter, but not overwhelming- just full of flavor and rich. Nicely balanced with great malts, with a dry biscuity finish. Really good overall
