Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2014 Clear light copper. good aroma.MInty fruit, sweetness, caramel, resin, all kinds of good stuffs. Looks great smells nice. drinks nice. I like this size double ipa. Its not quite too malty or sweet but drinks somewhat easy. Has good resin at the end moreso maybe than the bitter. Sweet resinony.

Bottle: Pours hazy orange-amber with a short, creamy, tan head. Aroma is orange/tangerine, tropical fruit. Taste is orange-peel, caramel malt....peppery, herbal bittering. Strong citrus. Very good.

A mostly clear orange color with an off white head that settles to a film with decent lacing. Aroma of caramel and citrus with a bit of tropical fruit and pine. Taste is citrus and pine with a layer of caramel running through it. Orange peel and rind bitterness coats the tongue along with some earthiness and a bit of biscuit hiding in the background. Finishes mostly dry with a big but smooth bitterness. Mouthfeel is crisp with a medium/full body and a crisp level of carbonation. Big flavors that are mostly in balance for a IPA. Caramel sweetness doesn’t lead the show but is quite noticeable behind the hop flavors.

On tap at the Food Factory and again in the bottle. Aroma is very bitter grass and pine. Pours light amber with decent carbonation and a medium sticky head. Taste is bitter grapefruit rind, grass, and dry pine. Great hop presence and extremely bitter for how strong it is. Very impressive DIPA.

Bottle - deep orange rust with a medium head and spotty lacing. Piney dank hop flavor. Medium to heavy body and mildly dry finish. I’ve had better but this will do for now.

Pours a mostly clear orange-amber with a thicker khaki head that settles to a film and leaves some nice clingy, spotty lace. Nose involves a nice pine and tropical fruit perfume, lots of pineapple, some mango, candied citrus, some spice, some sweet grainy stuff. Pretty sweet, decently bitter. Medium to full bodied, oily, soft yet pretty active, a bit syrupy, finishing somewhat dry and hoppy. Pretty decent, drinkable at its size, nice aromatics, but it’s a bit too sweet and syrupy.

Complex, sweet beginning that eventually gives way to a clunking aftertaste. Evolved nose and a floral bite. A radically ambitious brew that doesn’t quite get everything right.

Bottle thanks to Alemax. Pours clear bright copper orange with small white head, settles rapidly with sparse lace. Aroma is piney, resinous, light citrus hops, slight hay. Tastes bitter, citrus hops up front, fading into bitter, resinous piney hops, hint of alcohol with a slightly nutty, toffee, mildly sweet finish and bitter, resinous, aftertaste. Soft to moderate carbonation with medium body, lightly oily finish. Shame it’s not a fresher bottle.
