COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wrightís grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

Growler from Joe Canalís in Lawrenceville, NJ. Pours a hazy amber orange with a big rocky beige head. Aroma is big grapefruit citrus hops with toasted malt. Out of the gate, big bittersweet toasted malt and peppery hop flavor. Lotís of alcohol noticeable. Not a lot of depth, just bitter and strong alcohol. A bit pricey at $12.99 for 32 ounces. Finishes dry and intensely bitter.

Bottle. Pours a very clear light amber color with a slightly largish off-white head on it. Nose has a bit of hoppiness in there, but actually seems to be more malt forward, with a mix of grass and toasty and hay. Taste is slightly sweet up front, though you can get some bitterness to it. Just not a great example of the style, IMHO.

Pours a slightly hazy orange with a minimal white head. Smells of pineapple and grapefruit. Taste is bitter and sweet - citrus hops, hint of spruce, mild cracker at the end.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear copper / golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out piney hops, citrus notes and lots of biscuity malt notes. Flavour is fairly unbalanced and rugged, unfortunately skewed towards the sweet malt, cereal malt, and grassy hops. Doesnít seem as sweet at first, but leaves a slight cloying quality after a while. Itís got some rough edges, but itís okay.

Served at the Clyborn brewpub. Poured with an amber/orange color and a bright white head. Malt profile was bread with a caramel streak, followed by the citrusy hop package. Finished clean and enjoyable.
