Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

I expected this to be a really big beer. But it fell a little short for me. Maybe I’m spoiled by the other big hoppy brews out there. It’s worth a try but don’t expect the moon and stars

Drank out at Prosperity this year. Remember being blown away actually. Great DIPA. Flavor packed and resinous through the finish. Doesn’t stick, it’s clean but packs a punch!

On draft at Isaac Newton’s. Nice notes of pine, hop, caramel malts and grapefruit. The blend was near perfect and the body was full. A very enjoyable brew.

pours a hazy peach with a lasting white head and some spotty lacing. Surprisingly malty aroma with notes of vanilla and stone fruit. taste has notes of vanilla, apricot, green apple and a hint of orange. finish is note overly pronounced but present and pleasant. a fine beer.

Well if this is the beer that shows the name and ambition of the illinois we’re off to a bad start. I don’t know what is it with Goose Island. I think they are so overrated. Like extremely overrated. This one is no exception. Aroma is a sweet boozy mess. It’s almost nauseating. Let it warm up just couldn’t get a lot out of it. Taste is boozy and messy sweet weirdness. Some bitterness but just nothing that really saves this from being exactly what I expected. It’s kind of a let down to me. Probably won’t be trying anymore Goose Island beers.

Deep orange with thin head. Aroma of pine and grapefruit. Flavor of spicy hops and pine. Some alcohol warmth. Good but not great.

Appearance: clear medium orange, with one finger of frothy, bubbly white head and decent lacing. Aroma: fruity, with pineapple and mango most prominent, and lots of grapefruit and blood orange; malts are prominent with strong graham cracker pie crust and brown bread. Taste: hugely flavorful, with tropical and citrus fruits followed by slightly dank, resinous pine; big, toasty sweet malts to balance. Finish: strongly lingering bitterness, almost syrupy, with a pronounced boozy burn. Notes: A huge beer, with tons of juicy, fruity bitterness and a bunch of sweet toasty malts to balance. Alcohol was not well hidden at all, which detracted a bit from the overall experience. I’m no lightweight, and a single beer brought forth a boozy, burning buzz.

A solid imperial IPA. Pours dark golden with an impressive head. Bitter-sweetness, hints of grapefruit and apricot. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
