Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

On tap at HOTB. Pours a clear dark orange with a slight white head. Aroma is of tangerine and alcohol. Syrupy mouthfeel and slightly sweet. Still well done.

On tap 5oz. sampler at The Bistro in Old Line Wine in Beltsville, MD. Clear, amber-copper with an off-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma of pine, lemon, caramel and light fruit. Taste of intense caramel, pine and citrus--all nicely in balance--with some floral hops at the finish. Medium body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A solid dips. Amazing dark orange pour with great lacing. Some dank and resiny aromas. A well balanced dipa that isn’t all malt and isn’t all hops. Really good.

Clear tannish orange in color... Aroma of herbs, basil, citrus hops.... Flavor is light and crisp, not overly malty, herbs and grassy hops dominate... Lightly bitter on the palate... Solid ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour at Autumn Brew Review 2013. Amber pour with a white head. Nice big hoppy citrus nose. Big citrus again in the taste, strongly bitter finish but still bright and flavorful.

I’m already partial to this one because I REALLY want the Imperial IPA they used to make to come back... this isn’t it but has some similar characteristics. Flavor and aroma both dominated by green pine... would never have guessed Citra without being told... but I can get a bit of the onion/citrus fruit on the flavor now knowing. Very well done.... not my particular tastes, but well done GI.

I personally would not call it a DIPA but this really tastes good. The mixture of Citra and Meridian work well together. Definitely citrus forward and a strong with bitterness but it does not ruin the palate at all. Good carbonation too.

Poured a medium red with a fluffy head. Slight nose. Not as intense in the mouth as I would have liked. My recent hop needs we’re not met.

Thanks to Mark for this bottle! Pours orangish with a hint of red and a loose tan head. The smell is a hint of cherry, caramel and citrus. The taste is rich malt, cherry, citrus, ending dry and crisp. Medium body with fine carbonation.

On draft at ChurchKey in DC. Beautiful hazy bright orange pour with a smallish white head. Nose is absolutely rife with big fruit character, including sweet orange, pink grapefruit, Hawaiian Punch, and bits of lemon zest. The flavor brings forth a distinctly fruit-forward IPA as the aroma implied, with low bitterness for the style and a sweeter finish, though still obviously hoppy and bold. Not a particularly impressive palate, but not flawed in any way either. Quite tasty, though maybe not meriting its price point. Still, very well done.
