COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wrightís grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

Draft at Sedona, Charlottesville. Pours a clear copper color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of herbal, melon, resin hops and pale malts. The taste is melon, herbal, mild pine hops. Almost watermelon. Medium bodied.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear copper / golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out piney hops, citrus notes and lots of biscuity malt notes. Flavour is fairly unbalanced and rugged, unfortunately skewed towards the sweet malt, cereal malt, and grassy hops. Doesnít seem as sweet at first, but leaves a slight cloying quality after a while. Itís got some rough edges, but itís okay.

Cool to be rating a beer inspired by FLW less than a mile from his AZ campus. Amber colored pour with a white head. Fresh hops hit the tongue, some grapefruit peel, lemony notes, nice floral hop bill that lends to some grassy notes and then there is a nice backbone of malt. But the hops do steal the show.

Sample at Brew Kettle. The beer is a clear amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, malt and citrus. Medium-bodied with flavors of citrusy hops, toasted malt and pine. The finish is moderately bitter with a grapefruit aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On tap at Coleís, Buffalo. This did not come across like a DIPA, closer to a hoppy imperial lager. Mild citrus, well carbonated, minerally. Light grapefruit coloured body.

New brew from inbev. A decent dipa with an ample bitterness, citrus, and tropical notes.

Bottle. Orange juice malt and grapefruit peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet orange malt and strong bitter spruce/grapefruit peel flavor. Nice body. Good but nothing to set it apart.

10oz on tap at Lackman. Clear red orange color. Good bigger off-white khaki head. Leaves some kind of bubbly lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Good, full feel. A very light slickness in the finish. Good bready malt base, light bit of caramel, toast. An enjoyable malt profile. Some spicy hop, pine. Malt shines more than the hop (Iím told this keg is 2 months old), but there is a nice satisfying bitter flavor still. Mild sweet. Solid DIPA. Better than expected. First time Iíve seen that Meridian hop too, thatís interesting.

Tap at Strong Ale Fest. Pours clear golden, okay foam. Nose is really intense cheesecloth, sticky, not really fresh. Taste is juicy, mildly cheesy still, mothballs, basement, bitter grapefruit peel. Powerful grapefruit peel bitter finish.
