Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

Bottle:   Big IIPA for sure, a bit hot and young.   Feels very green, with a somewhat perfume like alcohol profile.   Big and malty, lots of candied citrus peel but its a bit over the top.   Malt driven example, fairly sweet but not sticky.   Noticeable alcohol.   Could be more floral or bright, but its not out of bounds for me.   Still a little young tho.

FROTHINGSLOSH (6839) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 24, 2014
Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a vibrant orange-caramel color with a medium sized creamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet grapefruit and lemon. The flavor was tangy, sweet, yet bitter with notes of lemon, grapefruit, a bit of resin, light caramel, and a bready undertone. Long sweet grapefruit and resin finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

On tap at Global in Edwardsville. A clear and coppery beer. Minimal head. The aroma is vegetable and cat pee. All kinds of both in the flavor made this a little hard to enjoy. Some pine and citrus with caramel. Not for me.

Clear amber color with ivory head. Pine, spicy, citrusy hop aromas. Spicy, earthy, dank hoppy bitter flavors with a cracker malt base__tasty.

Pailhead (6426) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - MAY 17, 2014
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate fruit with mango, melon, citrus, pineapple, tropical fruits, and light grapefruit. It pours a transparent amber with a two finger orange-tinted off-white head that has great retention. Eventually it fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is a good amount of soapy webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of mango, tropical fruits, and pineapple. There is a slight touch of caramel in the middle. The finish is moderate-heavily hopped with with good doses of grapefruit and spicy hops. It’s medium bodied with soft carbonation a slightly oily mouthfeel.

Braudog (6377) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - APR 17, 2014
Bottle. Standard visuals, golden amber with a medium, creamy head. The aroma is over-the-top perfumey, with an almost off-putting floral sting. The beer drinks with an average mouthfeel, neither thin nor as heavily bodied as some DIPAs. That same odd sense of spring pollen is evident in the taste, particularly in the too-mushy finish. 12 oz. bottle and I need to stop buying bottled IPA’s. IPA’s need to be draft or growler fill only. A bottle just doesn’t do them justice. Aroma is a mild floral, citrus and light pine hints.

Flavor is more sweet then I was hoping for. Strong amount of caramel and toffee malts, borderline sticky texture on the mouth with a medium in body leaning on fuller. The ABV is nicely hidden. Now as far as hop profile, it’s decent but the sweetness takes over. Citrus, grass and light pine with a light/ mild lingering bitterness after the sip. The only thing that come to mind is.... Well, mild. Very drinkable IPA that I’m sure would score higher on draft.
