COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

Sampled while I’m pouring GI at Blarney Stone’s Brew Fest. This assaults my nose right away with the big piney catbox smell of big American hops. Then a big malty smack in the face that stands up to the extreme bitter these hops put down. Thick malty mouthfeel, and you can sense the alcohol doing its dirty work. Alternating between sipping this and BCS. Life is good.

Pours a bright orange with a one finger off white head with nice lacing. Aroma is of citrus, pine, sweet malts, light tropical fruits, and some caramel malts. Taste is prett similar to the aroma with a lot of nice citrus, tropical fruits, and a nice sweet malt backbone. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, moderately bitter, medium-long finish. Overall, a tasty, suprisingly drinkable DIPA.

Bottle. Poured a golden orange color with one finger tall head. Aromas of caramel and big floral/citrus hop. Medium large bitterness. Some malt backbone Medium bodied at least. Average carbonation. A tad sticky texture. Pretty good. A big beer.

12 oz. bottle and I need to stop buying bottled IPA’s. IPA’s need to be draft or growler fill only. A bottle just doesn’t do them justice. Aroma is a mild floral, citrus and light pine hints.

Flavor is more sweet then I was hoping for. Strong amount of caramel and toffee malts, borderline sticky texture on the mouth with a medium in body leaning on fuller. The ABV is nicely hidden. Now as far as hop profile, it’s decent but the sweetness takes over. Citrus, grass and light pine with a light/ mild lingering bitterness after the sip. The only thing that come to mind is.... Well, mild. Very drinkable IPA that I’m sure would score higher on draft.

first whiff is backed up drain, then resin, caramel, distant pickle. lightly hazed golden amber with modest off white head. Woody flavor with a little citrus, slight metallic thread & yes that swampiness. Works well in the mouth

12oz bottle 6/29/14 (Osco Mix A Six)-42° in Snifter-Pours a murky orangish amber with a two finger off white head. Aroma of hops and more hops. Taste of hops, malt, and caramel. This full bodied brew is not a bad double IPA but there are better.

Bottle. Orange juice malt and grapefruit peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet orange malt and strong bitter spruce/grapefruit peel flavor. Nice body. Good but nothing to set it apart.

Aroma is citrus, pine and a hint of syrup/sweetness. The flavor is citrus, grapefruit, fruit, mild syrup/sweetness, a hint of hop resin and a mildly bitter/tangy finish.

21 karat pour with subtle carbonation that produced a small soapy head. Tart grapefruit, bright tangelo, lemon zest, and candied orange. Not enamel peeling but a well balanced example of the style. Enjoyed it.
