We aged our Blueberry Ale in wood barrels for six months. During this time, “wild” micro-organisms present in the barrel helped develop acidity, leading to the sour characters that are present in the classic lambic beers of Belgium. Served in a Tulip glass.

On tap at GI Cly. Purple-red color with a thin white/pink hear. Aroma is nice blueberries with nice sourness, funkiness, oak, very nice. Flavor is puckery-tart at first with blueberries and sour finish, as it warms it gets delightfully drinkable, with some more of the oak coming forward as well. Medium body with pucker. This is one of the best beers i’ve had from GI, this is a slow drinking beer though, taking my GF to drink two pints while I was drinking this one.

Glad I saw everyone else rating this recently so I knew to go in and grab it. Pours a cloudy red with a thin pinkish head. Nice funky aroma from the barrels. Very good flavor, just a little bit of sour, but not overpowering. This was an amazing improvement from the blueberry ale I had a while ago. It was a little watery, but it had a nice dry finish. Very glad to see Goose giving this type of beer a try. Well done!

draft at clybourn a couple nights ago. this was fantastic. i almost passed it up because i thought it was just a fruit beer. blueberries dominate every aspect of the beer, obviously. it was way more sour than mike was expecting, but pretty right on for me. a tiny bit sweet, but pretty dry. very carbonated. super drinkable.

Live rate at GI Clybourn. Pours a purple blue in a tulip with a thin ring a head. Really nice nose. Sour lambic like surrounded in oak and a granular sugar blueberry sweetness . Tart tart on the first sip. Blueberries with a lambic qualities. The first sips are so heavily acidic/lactic that its a little too harsh. A lightly prickly carbonation. As this reaches room temperature and oxygen enters the glass the acidity seems to mellow a considerable amount and allow those blueberries to balance it out. This becomes incredibly drinkable and ever so slightly watery in the finish. If the flavor lasted a little longer, instead of dissolving so quickly it would score a few points higher. I love sours and it makes me excited when they’re local, so keep it up.

growler. thanks to andrew for picking this one up for me.... murky red pour with a thin soapy ring of white head.... pleasant aroma of sour blueberries and tartness... flavors were much of the same. refreshing sour blueberries along with some wooden barrel. semi-lively carbonation that really goes down well on a warm summer day. i almost finished the whole growler by myself. a really pleasant surprise with this one.

Draft at Clybourn. Pour is pretty, deep and purpley red with a soft offwhite head. Nose is strong of blueberry preserves, oak and acid. Don’t get much brett in there, but distinctly lactic and refreshing. At first, this was a bit cloyingly sweet and fruity, but a little warmth smoothed it out. Rich malt character, a lot of oak and acid. finished very clean. Damn fine example and a pleasure.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2008 a few pours at GI LPB. pours red with pink head. lots of blueberry in the aroma, tart and funky, oaky bretty notes too. rather acidic and tart blue berry flavor, sour finish, surprisingly high carbonation and acidity, wonderful champagne quality to it. not overly sour or acidic making this extremely drinkable. based on the description I wasn’t expecting this to be aged with blueberries. this is the sour beer goose has been wishing to make for a long time. 4.2.

8/30/08, a growler shared with my wife at Jazz Fest ’08. A wonderful pairing for sure. the look wasn’t quite as a good poured from the growler, more of a wispy white head than that beautiful pink head found on site. the color seemed a bit dulled and less attractive. this didn’t seem as funky or sour this time around, lots of fruity blueberry flavor with oak and acid. not the most complex fruit/sour beer but damn if this isn’t really satisfy and drinkable. the aroma is right up there with great fruit lambics, the flavor however falls a bit flat and short. really nice brew. 4.1.
