COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dunkelweizen translates from German to mean dark wheat. Gordon Biersch Dunkelweizen highlights the undertones of dark roasted malted wheat and the unique flavors produced by our special Hefeweizen yeast strain. Our Dunkelweizen adheres to all of the traditions of the Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Law of 1516) and is naturally carbonated.

Hazy brown color, nice head with great lacing. Flavor is all about banana and sweetness. Would have liked more dark malt flavor.

Pint between flights@Dulles airport, 01/09/12. Muddy copper glinting with bronze, slim beige top. Good clove and banana aroma. Chocolate-coated digestives, blueberries, stir of cherry, banana and spice. Nowt special but well-executed and the best beer I’ve had in an airport outside of Munich.

Pours cloudy orange/brown with thin lacing. Aroma is butterscotch, caramel. Medium-bodied palate is nicely balanced with a good caramel flavor without being too sweet. Enjoyed throuroghly.

Tasted on tap at San Francisco brew pub in standard pint glass. Poured a dark brown color with yeast/chill haze and moderate beige foam, somewhat lasting with a little fine lace. Excellent aromas of rising dough, fresh baked whole-wheat bread, faint flowery hops and fruity ale yeast esters. Flavors of complex barley malts, mellow wheat, dry roasted grains, soft hops bitterness with some apricot, citrus and dried sour fruits from the fermentation. Medium body and well-rounded mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Lasting bittersweet aftertastes fades to dryness. Delicious. Definitely an underappreciated style.

Bottle. Pours brown with off white head. Some fruit and yeast aroma, taste of fruit and yeast. Bit out of balance.

On tap at the brewpub in DC on 09.14.2009. Poured a slightly hazy auburn brown with a good deal of off-white head. The smell was characteristic of the style with some dark malts and fruits being slightly overcome by the yeastiness of the style. The taste was much the same, and the brew itself was crisp with a nice hint of carbonation and not much alcohol presence. Definite drinkability as well. Moved from a separate listing (formerly the DC location) that has been flagged as a duplicate on 11.16.2010. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 11-17-2010

Trader Joe’s version. Love the appearance of this brew. Pours with a thin head on it. Drinks nicely. The yeast is strong but not overpowering. Worth a try.

Trader Joe’s Dunkelweizen. Pour is a murky brown with minimal head. Aromas of hefeweizen (banana/clove) with some caramel and brown sugar. Very true to style. Quite quaffable and good. A great deal at $1 a bottle. Will be revisiting at some point in the future.
