COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
is a full-bodied, malty beer. It is our only lager beer served unfiltered, the way all beer was traditionally made years ago. Despite its dark color and rich caramel aroma, Dunkles is light in texture and smooth to drink.

Tempe, AZ. Cloudy dark brown color, decent head. Some malt and chocolate in the aroma. Malty flavor, but some weak vomit-like off-flavor, maybe from the yeast, that made this beer unenjoyable. Disappointing light mouthfeel. Not good.

Sampled at the Oakville location. Chestnut brown. Tan head. Aroma of caramel, honey, & bread. Thin-medium body. Some bread-like dark malt flavours. Moderately hoppy finish w/ hint of alcohol. Overall, however, flavours are a little watery & bland.

Draft. Oakville Darker amber, more head than the rest. Slightly tan head, with hints or roasted flavour. Better mouthfeel than the rest, but a bit on the thin side. This and their Hefeweizen were the best offerings I thought.

Sampled draught at Gordon Biersch, Las Vegas
Hazy mahogany with average head & lacing. Nose of celery & cabbage, loads of DMS. Tastes lightly sweet with notes of dark chocolate & dark fruits. Oily creamy finish but balanced.

A bit on the syrupy side. But it promises a lot more than it delivers. Like a thickened version of the marzen.

Draught, Atlanta location. Clear red-copper body with mild carbonation and a creamy off-white head. Appearance does not square with the "unfiltered" claim on the menu but I guess it could have settled. Munich malt aroma with dark bread crusts and black tea plus caramel. Flavor has more tea qualities and a prominent scorched sweet element like over-baked cookies. Instantly cloying and over-satiating. Insipid beer aimed at a beer clown’s palate.

From tap at the brewpub in Palo Alto. Pours hazy dark brown with a small and solid tan head. Aroma is mild vegetable and dark roasted malty. Flavour is dark malty, breaidh and roasted flavoured. Light bitterness and mild acidic roasted note. Dry and dark malty finish. Far from the origins.

Cloudy dark red. Sweet malt, roasty hops and fruit in the nose. The body is sweet and malty with light hops in the middle. Dries out really quick.

Not that bad aromas of malt and some chocolate, but the watery nature of the beer in the glass translates to a watery palate. A weak contender -- maybe I just don’t care for the style.
