COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
is a full-bodied, malty beer. It is our only lager beer served unfiltered, the way all beer was traditionally made years ago. Despite its dark color and rich caramel aroma, Dunkles is light in texture and smooth to drink.

on tap @ San Diego. As nice as that head looks on the beer in the picture that wasn’t how mine was served. Mine had almost no head but still looked appetizing. I found it somewhat sweet of chocolate and of malt. Maybe it was just me but i tasted as if some orange and tea was there as well.?.?. The next few days i kept thinking how much i wanted another glass of this but i have’nt gone back yet.

On tap at the Atlanta location. copper/warm brown. beautiful lingering swirl of lace. malty toasty scent. supposedly unfiltered, but I see no haze. wonderful butteriness.

On tap at the downtown Atlanta location. Pours a dark copper with a creamy, frothy thick white head. Aroma has hints of toffee, a smidgen of chocolate and a back end of citrus. Flavor is very pronounced with some caramel, chocolate, and a bit of citrusy hoppiness. The back end is dominated by a teriyaki-like smokiness that is interesting and enjoyable. Somewhat chewy mouthfeel. Very decent.

Draft at the brewpub Columbus, Ohio - Pours dark brown with a creamy offwhite head that stays pretty well and laces some,.. Aroma is toffee, chocolate, and a bit of brown sugar. Flavor is a nice blend of toffee, caramel, chocolate, and a touch of roasted malt. Palate is medium bodied smooth without a great deal of carbonation. Nice beer.

On tap @ Gordon Biersch Mission Valley. Pored a very dark hazy copper color. Nose is mostly of malts....some dark fruit as well. I picked up a nice hint of cherries on the tounge. A very nice Dunkle.

This is a dark brown beer with a soft white head. It has a definite organic smell--kinda grassy. The taste is also grassy with some nuts mixed in there. This is the best beer available at Gordon Biersch in my opinion, but there are definitely better brews out there."

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2003 On tap Dark red-brown leather body with a thick off white head. Nice lacing. Lagers have such great color!
Lots of toasted maltiness in the aroma. Smells much more substantial than what is really in the glass.
Taste is of a dunkel but thin. Roastiness comes through in the taste a little more than the malt. Not much bitterness to note.
Very smooth on the palate.

dark, not black though, maybe some purple in it with an off white head that is moderate. Smells much like fresh veggies and some nuts, nutty organic taste to it.

On draft at the GB in Memphis. Delicious. Kind of like a baby double bock (but not a bock), nice malt, rich palate.

A good attempt at a dunkle. I liked this one alot, but it had a mild aftertaste that i found rather annoying. Fairly smooth with a decent body.
