3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark amber, almost cola colored. Nose is straw-like, typical lager aroma. Taste is sweet and quite cola-like. Thin bodied. Soft, but lively carbonation. Decent brew. Not remarkable. Not bad at all. Standard dark lager.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Completely unimpressive. Ok flavor, but thin. Sweet opening a little cloying with a little lemony citrous middle , finish a little bitter. Gordon Biersch seems to worry more about making pretty beers than tasty beers.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft sampler at Columbus brewpub. Sweet malty aroma, "light in texture"--no shit, thin malty flavor with some hop tang at the end.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
This is a very mellow brew with a slightly sweet finish. Was the least impressive of the beers I drank last night at the Gordon Biersch Brewpub in the Arena district in ’Cow’lumbus; which is ironic, because I figured I’d like this one the most going in. It has a nice color and nice head retention. It didn’t hurt that I had this out of the tap. I thought it was a little on the thin side.

Didn’t like the aftertaste. Otherwise moderately good. Dunkles? You can still see light shining through...

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark cola coloured body with a frothy tan head, almost non-existant. Aroma of roasted malt, pit fruit, nuts and some raisins. Medium-bodied; Nice full roasty malt flavour with a good long-lasting pit fruit sweetness. Aftertaste lingers and lasts quite a while. Overall, a good overall dunkel-the best beer from the brewpub and recommended if anyone visits the facility. I sampled this on draught on 29-September-2004 at the brewpub on 9th & F in Washington, D.C.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
tap at the vegas location. first off, this wasnt a very dunkel dunkel. a dark amber color this was more reminiscent of that sytle than a dunkel. head was thin and creamy. aroma was malty with hints of chocolate, and the flavor had just enough chocolate to make you realize it was there, but not enough to actually contribute to the flavor. a medium body and a sweet aftertaste made this one of the better brews at GB.

2.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a very light brown/dark copper color with an amazingly huge billowy off white head. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – A big caramel and brown sugar aroma are the bulk of the smell. These are mixed with some nice roasted malt and toasted aromas as well as a little bit of a nutty smell. Rounding out all these is a very light earthy and herbal hop as well, creating a very pleasant aroma overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet brown sugar and caramel flavor with a little bit of a toasted malt and a light grainy taste. The grain and malt are very light, largely being dominated by the sweeter flavors of the brew, which intensify even more after the initial taste with some other sweet flavors of a cola and molasses nature coming to the tongue. A little bit of a nut flavor develops right after the initial taste, with it then fading away toward the end due to the advent of the cola and molasses. Just a hint of herb is mixed into the taste leaving one with a very sweet, lightly roasted, and thin flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is quite thin with a carbonation level that is high. A thicker body would have certainly been better for accentuating the roasted and nut flavors of the brew and would have made it a bit less cloying.
Overall – A little too sweet in darker sugar flavors with not quite enough malt and roast to really support the sweet. A bit sweetly unbalanced.
