COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An ancient, sour and saline tasting ale, made from more than half malted wheat, and the rest malted barley. This brew is fermented with both yeast and lactic bacteria, and is spiced with both coriander and hops. It is also brewed with slightly salted water. This peculiar beer style is now more closely associated with Leipzig, the capital of the German state of Saxony.

Growler from Gordon Biersch Rockville shared by yourefragile as a segway in the midst of the 2011 barrel-aged barleywine tasting. Quite a few pours into the SAVOR snifter. Maybe I should have gotten a bigger glass out for this one. Initial pour is a hazy straw color with a good single-finger white head with good retention and a good dosage of lacing. Nose is slightly lactic with a good portion of wheat and some light citrus in the background. Flavor hits all the right spots. Salt is a little on the low end but I won’t complain about that. Light acidity throughout and a nice light citric character to complement the wheat base. Light body and good carbonation. Dry finish with a slight pucker. Really drinkable and sessionable. I could have killed the growler myself.

GABF 2010. Chattanooga, TN. Pours a nice hazed golden yellow with a fluffy lasting white head. Aroma is light tart, sea salt, bready doughy malts, hay, light citrus, spices, cracker, and some grassyness. Flavor is bready doughy, light coriander, toasted malt, light saltiness, and low acidity, lemongrass and crackers. Crisp clean and great finish. Nice.

GABF 2010, from Gordon Biersch Chattanooga, TN. spelled Goze. Light grassy yellow pour. little discernable aroma. lightly tart flavor, citrus, light spice. Pretty good

Served on tap at the VIP party before the Oak Park Microbrew & Food Review and to a small, Czech-pils style fest glass, with a hazed, light golden color. The head foam was modest but silky, and quick to diminish, leaving just some light spots of lacing. The aroma was light breadiness, a little yeasty funk, lemony tartness, and a hint of spice. The flavor mimicked these notes in a light body with a pleasant, spritzy mouthfeel. An unusual Sour Ale, and nicely introduced by Kevin from the Bollingbrook, IL. brewpub and restaurant.
