COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August! Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

Much better than the starting sample this was actually not a half bad hefeweizen. Falling about midway between yeasty and fruity on the style spectrum it managed to maintain my interest until the sample was gone. For that alone it gets a point or two. By far the most interesting sample I might actually order a pint of this.

Aroma / Appearance - Cloudy with a delicate pure white head this was filtered so that it lost a bit of appeal. Even so the smell of banana nut bread and raisins gave it some character.

Flavor / Palate - Reasonably full bodied with a little bit of a zesty bite it has some kick to it that I was not expecting. Orange rinds, banana, and warmth permeate the senses. Of all the samples this is the one that I would have ordered a larger pour.

Draft in D.C. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Light fruity and lemony aroma with light spicy notes. The flavor has banana, some lemony citrus, and spicy yeasty notes. Decent.

The gordon biersch hefe was a standard unfiltered, banana and citrus smelling, light bodied typical hefeweizen beer. It can be compared to any other basic hefe, no outstanding flavor separating it from other hefes.

Light body, low warmth and creaminess, medium carbonation with a dry and biting finish.

This is a very drinkable Hefeweizen. Gordon Biersch provides quality brews. I still prefer some other Hefeweizen beers for their doughy notes, especially Franziskaner and Paulaner / Ayinger. Nonetheless, I would likely get this again on tap at the J. Clyde.

Sampled at Gordon Biersch Dallas, TX. Pours hazy-golden hue. Aroma is of yeast, some banana and cloves. Body is medium, smooth. Taste is similar to aroma – mostly yeast with some banana and cloves. On the whole, it is not German hefeweizen but still not bad.

On tap at the DC brewpub. Pours a hazy pale orange with a creamy white head. Aroma is softly banana and clove, wheat is more on the forefront, as the fruit and spice are quite subdued. Flavor is a bit more fruit, though barely spicy, with a lot of wheat taking control of the mouth feel. Finishes a touch bitter with plenty of fruity notes and a touch of spice, Medium body and a moderate carbonation. Pretty decent hefe, maybe could’ve used a bit more complexity, a touch thin.
