Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August! Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

On tap at their D.C. location. I wish that they bottled this. It is a really good example of a Hefeweizen - nice white head on top of a very hazy wheat yellow. The aroma is a very memorable banana, a little citrus/lemony hint, and some mild spiciness. The taste is a little understated and weak. The bananas provide a very slight sweetness with a little sour at the end - maybe the yeast is finally coming through. The body is medium, lively, but very thin - almost macro-brew thin. It is a shame that this brew isn’t just a little thicker.
This was a very good beer for a Saturday afternoon lunch on a hot and humid day. If you like hefe’s, then you should give this one a try for lunch. Its not an "after dinner" beer, but it would be exceptional while grilling on a hot day. If only they bottled this.

Sweet-smelling hefe that doesn't suck. A standard wheat, but a decent flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap. Slightly hazy golden pour with a white head. Aromas of banana and clove. Flavor is similar. Easy to drink and refreshing. Decent example of the style.

Draft. Hazy light golden body with a short white head. Aroma of banana and clove, toasted grain, light floral hops. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. Medium body, watery/slick texture, lively carbonation. A decent rendition of a German hefe. An acidic tang in the finish after a sweet start. Grainier than better hefes, but still clean enough to be enjoyable.

Doesn’t quite make it into the acceptably decent margin of 2.5. Light banana peel. Pours slightly hazy gold. Light sour finish and a hint of grain even. Tap at brewpub.

Pour on tap at the brewpub at LAX, hazy orange pour with thin white head, lacing. Aroma brought some lemon, orange, hints of banana and clove but restrained, hints of slight grain as well. Taste is a mix of grain, husk, bready notes into some lemon, finishing fairly sweet. Not bad, but nothing amazing for sure.

Man do I love this hef! In my humble opinion, one of the best American Hefeweizens. Love the aroma, the wheat and malted barley are fantastic! Taste could be more pronounced but overall great American hef.
