COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August! Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

I recently did an 8 Hefeweizen beer taste test and this one took top honors, 2nd place was Weihenstephaner. see YouTube clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzgDNw-QJL0 This is a great beer!

On tap, Oakland Airport. I’m normally not a hefe fan, but this one was fantastic. Seems under-rated. The aroma was strong and rich, yeasty. I declined the yellow fruit, but still got the aroma of lemons.

Im not your traditional Hefe lover but this one is good. Little spice, smell and taste of bananna. Good overall not filtered brew.

I love the wheaty bread dough nose and taste, a nice chill haze makes it quite appealing, problem is the short availability. Nice malts and a fair hopped beer that is quite pleasing to the palate.

One of the better authentic HWs in the US that I've found (at the LV brewpub). This is classically cloudy orange-yellow with a terrific head. Banana character is prominent, but this is a nice light interpretation. Recommended. I even steer my "non-beer" friends to this as a good alternative. Very good.

One of the best main-stream hefs in the US. When I fly through OAK, I never miss it.

On tap at the brewpub, pours a hazy pale orangish yellowish color with a thick creamy white head, decent retention. Very fragrant aroma of bananas, also some yeast/bread and bubblegum. Very good taste and very refreshing, especially when it’s cold. Full flavored of bananas and bubblegum. Creamy and smooth on the palate. As it warms, it actually loses a bit of flavor, so drink it when it’s cold. I think this is one of the best hefes I’ve had.

Kicks ass. Add a slice a lemon, and one of the best.

On tap at their D.C. location. I wish that they bottled this. It is a really good example of a Hefeweizen - nice white head on top of a very hazy wheat yellow. The aroma is a very memorable banana, a little citrus/lemony hint, and some mild spiciness. The taste is a little understated and weak. The bananas provide a very slight sweetness with a little sour at the end - maybe the yeast is finally coming through. The body is medium, lively, but very thin - almost macro-brew thin. It is a shame that this brew isn’t just a little thicker.
This was a very good beer for a Saturday afternoon lunch on a hot and humid day. If you like hefe’s, then you should give this one a try for lunch. Its not an "after dinner" beer, but it would be exceptional while grilling on a hot day. If only they bottled this.
