junon (143), Honolulu, Hawaii, USA Jul 13, 2008 Hmm quite surprising. From my experiences American Hefeweizens tend to be less sweet and fruity than its German/Belgian counterparts. However Gordon Biersch seems to have captured more of a classic taste. I agree that the flavors are a bit more tamed but they are there. Good stuff.
rayOfBeer (265), El Cerrito, California, USA Oct 2, 2008 Poured from tap a hazy darker golden color with thin white head. Nose is nice with a clove spiciness, sweet malt and a little banana. Flavor is good coming in with a little sweet honey, caramel, clove and banana. Palate is full and malty with some carbonation but not enough imho for a hefeweizen. Overall, I thought the flavor was very good just lacking in carbonation to make it truly great. Bierkrug (32), Mackenrodt, Germany Sep 14, 2008 I found the Aroma, and palate both weak for a Hefe. The taste does not last long either and goes flat in the glass quickly. Over all not a bad beer but not great. DubC5000 (148), San Diego, California, USA Sep 14, 2008 Dark straw in appearance, opaque. Darker near the top. Yeasty aroma, with a hint of caramel. The flavor, small bit of yeast on the surface, strong wheat tones dominating the malts, and a touch of apple and citrus. A very good hef, with a good balance of sweetness, bitterness, and leafy grain. 1010 (60), Marysville, Ohio, USA Sep 13, 2008 On tap at the Columbus Microbrew Festival. Pours a cloudy golden color. Taste of spices with some banana. Great beer. zombywoof (306), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Sep 11, 2008 Good if unspectacular hefe at KC. Location. Nice aroma of banana, clove, a litlle lemon and a hint of bubblegum. Not too sweet- a lttle grainey with more banana, coriander and apple.
