The tradition of the Maibock beer began in the 14th century in Einbeck, Germany. This bock beer style was so popular the brewmaster was lured away by the Bavarians to replicate the style. Gordon Biersch Maibock is rich and full-bodied, emphasizing dark roasted, caramelized Munich malt and brewed in accordance to the German Purity Law of 1516.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine Chesapeake, VA, opened 7/15/11. Kinda surprised I haven’t had this one yet. Pours a clear copper color with a large tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel, apple, floral hops. The taste is toasted malts with a slight grassy hop finish. Medium bodied.

Tap (Honolulu). Bronze/amber pour with white head. Aroma of banana, fresh dough. Taste was a bit bready and sour as well as some malt notes. Decent. Left me wanting there to be more flavor and substance to it than there was but decent overall.

Boring! Boring! Boring! No aroma or taste to speak of. Pours amber from tap but it just lays there inert.

Had at the Kansas City Gordon Biersch, actually walked a while in the rain just to see if there was anything new on tap from my last visit to a GB years ago, this was it.. . Poured a basic tan, light light foam .. . light maple and some fake honey, and a touch of booze .. . i didn’t like this at all, and at $7, yikes.. but i got a sweet glass out of it .. .
Hey Stan. Did you see that rainbow this morning? - Yeah. It was huge.
- Eh. I hate those things.. - What’s there to hate about rainbows?
Well, you know. You’ll just be sitting there, minding your own business, and they’ll come marching in, and crawl up your leg, and start biting the inside of your ass, and you’ll be all like, "Hey. Get out of my ass you stupid rainbows." -
what the hell are you talking about?

At the Gordon B restaurant in Myrtle. Gave me the big size draft by mistake and after hours in the sun, gave me way too much of an afternoon beer buzz. Copper color, very slight haze, head recedes but top haze stays. Banana, dough in the nose. Tangy palate, a bit sour, a bit boozy, wood, malt notes. Very good.

Flavor is heavy malt (caramel, cookie, nutty), light hops (spicy), and no esters with a clean lager character and notes of dates. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation with a sweet finish.
