COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The tradition of the Maibock beer began in the 14th century in Einbeck, Germany. This bock beer style was so popular the brewmaster was lured away by the Bavarians to replicate the style. Gordon Biersch Maibock is rich and full-bodied, emphasizing dark roasted, caramelized Munich malt and brewed in accordance to the German Purity Law of 1516.

Pours amber color with 2 finger white head. Malt and caramel aromas. Malt and caramel dominate the flavor with some hop bitterness and an almost fruity spice. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Pour on tap at brewpub in LAX, clear dark orange pour with white head, aroma brought biscuit, bread, grass, hints of grain, touch of spice, yeast in there with a hint of floral notes, lots of caramel in the nose as well. Taste is a mix of caramel, bread, yeast, hints of slight red fruits, some spice, finishing fairly dry, spicy, slightly sweet.

Tap at Dulles pub. Pretty orange-brown color with a fine, tall head. Fruity, caramel nose. Sweet caramel flavor, rather one dimensional, malt straightforward but not quite cloying. Nicely bitter in the finish. Ok.

On tap at Gordon Biersch in KC. Poured a clear medium copper with a small head and minimal lacing. Aroma was sweet with caramel malt and dark fruit. Taste was the same as the smell with a slightly bitter finish.

Draft at Cleveland airport. The tap handle was still advertising their winter brew - this didn’t inspire confidence. But I was assured that this was the summer seasonal. I think it was probably a spring seasonal they couldn’t sell off yet, but OK, I’ll roll with it. Medium amber, nice head. Aroma was sweet caramel accented malts. Flavor matched. Sweetish, some balancing bittering hops on the finish. Maybe a hint of a floral note. Not bad, just not my thing.

Wittales (564) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JUN 16, 2013
Appearance was clear deep orangish gold with off white diminishing 1 finger head, slight spotty lacing. Aromas are sweet toffee roasted malts with hints of noble hops. Taste was sweet tangy spicey caramelize malt backbone then earthy spicey hops. Palate was soft creamy CO2 with medium body, then roasts toasty spicey sweet average length finish. Like this Maibock version.
