3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Wagney (2) - USA - APR 23, 2009 does not count
The aroma is very toasty bread crust. A big malt taste but with caramel undertones. A little bit too sweet for me.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Koskela (38) - Marysville, California, USA - MAY 27, 2012
Aroma is very oktoberfestish/ marzen style. The appearance is a medium dark amber color very clear. The taste is very malty much like an Oktoberfest style. Crisp and medium body. It’s a bit to sweet for the style but not a bad brew. Not bitter but nvery sweet. Worth a buy to taste maybe not a rebuy

Originally reviewed: 7/3/10. Not sure what the difference is between this and the Blonde Bock from the same brewery. Same style and essentially the same ABV. My bottle is labelled Maibock, so I’ll stick the review here.
12oz bottle poured into a mug. Pours a dark crimson/amber. There’s a thin beige head on top, but it disappears quickly. No lace present. Scents of figs, raisins, toffee, and a little booze quality. Different.
The mouth is firm. Pretty heavy body for what it is. Carbonation level is decent. The flavors are unlike any other of this style that I have had. This is more like an English Mild Ale, or a weak Old Ale. Dark fruits abound. Some plum and raisins present. Bitterness is moderate. There’s a bit of an alcohol burn on the back end. This was an odd offering. I enjoyed their Marzen, but this one, not so much.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nik925 (639) - California, USA - APR 13, 2012
Very nice sweetness. Well made and looks nice. That mild sweetness is well matched by the hops, but the whole package starts to loose its appeal. Somehow mellow and harsh at the same time. For style, this is pretty great...for a random beer out of the fridge, meh.

Gordon Biersch Maibock has a thick, cream-colored head and a clear, amber appearance, with lots of lacing and streaming bubbles. The aroma is faint, but one can pick up sweet, medium-roasted malts and a little bit of grain husk. Taste is sweet malt, some syrup, brown bread, a touch of hop bitterness, and alcohol is present across the sip.The mouthfeel is light to medium, and Gordon Biersch Maibock finishes crisp and fairly easy drinking. Overall, this is a very good beer. RJT

Not much of anything to this beer. Pretty light with not a lot of flavor. While i can respect the traditional style it was just boring and watery.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 hayduke (2534) - Eureka, California, USA - APR 11, 2012
Pours copper with an off-white head. Caramel malts aroma with some grassy hops. Body medium. . Flavor is bland, and there is not much finish. I like most Gordon Biersch brews but this is pretty so so.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 dumontn (528) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - APR 7, 2012
Pours clear amber with a long lasting head. Aroma is spring leaves, sweet caramel, some metallic notes. Taste is similar, sweet but mildly metallic. Body is rich and full, prickly carbonation, long sweet metal finish. Overall, a bit sweet.
