COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Märzen (Mayrt-zen) was historically brewed in Bavaria from March through the end of October. It was brewed dark and strong, using dark roasted Munich and caramelized Munich malt to help cover up flavor changes from the lack of refrigeration (ice in those days) used to keep the beers cold in the cellars during the warm summer months. It was also the beer served at the Original Oktoberfest celebration, which originated as a wedding reception for the King Ludwig I and Maria Theresa. Bavaria was a very poor country and had little cause for celebration, so the King and Queen invited the entire population of Bavaria to the reception. They showed up that year and every year thereafter, and the event evolved into the modern day Oktoberfest. Gordon Biersch Märzen accentuates the flavors of the dark roasted imported malted barley and exhibits a caramel malt aftertaste, while downplaying the hop level.

I used to like this, but now it seems a bit insipid. Lacking in aroma. somewhat metallic taste.

Comes out of the tap a beautiful clear golden amber with a substantial pale wheat head. Robust aroma has apple, banana and malty notes and more than a hint of caramel. Flavor delights with malty, fruity and caramel notes and just a hint of woody hops. Texture, though not substantial, has a decent fizz. Good as an accompaniment to a meal, though fine by itself.

On tap at Gordon Biersch Dulles. Caramel body with fruity tan head. Sweet nose of almond and marsepijn. Taste is butterschotch, malts. Also many in the finish.

I have had this on tap In San Jose and Las Vegas. It is one of my favorites. It is very smooth and easy to drink. Pours a dark amber, not much aroma. Great flavor and palate is nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A decent oktoberfest-style beer. Great auburn color. Nice combination of sweet and burnt. But still doesn’t smell great and is relatively unremarkable.

Poured one finger of head on a dark amber colored body. The aroma has some nice grain and barnyard smell to it. The flavor is light overall. Some malt sweetness with mild bitterness. The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation. A fair beer.

Had on draft at the Las Vegas brewpub. Notes of bread, bread crust, soft sweetness. Clean, well made lager.

Another good Gordon Biersch. Pours a beautiful red-amber with a white head. Smells slightly of vanilla. Taste is sweet and creamy. Very refreshing. Had in the bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
