An underwhelming, dumbed-down version of the Marzen-style. It's sad that one of the few widely available examples of this style is such a weak-sauce offering. This has very little carmelized-malt flavor - hell, there's precious little flavor here at all. Slides down as easily and mindlessly as an MGD. Avoid.

Draught. Deep amber, white head. Malty aroma, quite clean, butter, caramel, hops, alcohol. Off-dry, medium body, low to medium bitterness, balanced CO2. Malty taste, caramel, butter, hops. (2012-05-06)

Pyobon (569) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 6, 2012
(on tap) Clear reddish copper, good head. Little aroma, slightly vegetable. Light body, good carbonation. Sweet maltiness with slightly vegetably notes. Almost no bitterness. Overall fine; sweet and pleasant; not really a style I am fond of.

Caytinator (104) - Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - MAY 2, 2012
16oz glass at the mid-town Biersch in Atlanta. Actually one of the better Marzens I’ve had in the states. The appearance wasn’t anything special, but it tasted just like the German Marzens I drink in Europe. The taste was pretty good, too, a little bit of burnt malt & caramel. Overall, I feel like this is an "homage" beer more than anything unique, but worth a drink anyway!

Aroma is malt and carmel, color is copper with traces of a head and minor lacing, thin on the palate, light on carbonation and warmth going down. Nothing special

Originally reviewed: 5/18/10. 12oz bottle poured into a mug. Pours a very inviting amber with a thick tan head on top. Retention was fair, and it left little lace on the side. Scents of toasted malts, sweet toffee, and just a bit of floral on the backend. The mouth is thinner than I’d like. Could stand a bite more depth here. Well-rounded flavors with a sweet finish. Mild bitterness. This beer surely hits the spot. I love that this offering is offered year-round, so I can get my Marzen fix without waiting for Autumn. Good stuff.

Drank this strait from the bottle, bleh. Very basic lager type characters. Flavor does show some caramel sweetness. Palate is thin, slightly sticky, overall a light beer that is OK on this hot day, but not the best marzen.

Airport draft. Not much smell, but a nice head and a clear amber color. Weirdly malty, and it hangs with you for a while.

Pint from Hanalei Cafe on Kaua’i island. Colour: medium brown with light red tinges and minimal head. Nose: strong yeast dominance with small traces of fruit and fish. Taste: medium-light sweet, light bitter, medium-light sour. Lot’s of fresh grain meshed with a small touch of sugar. Late lettuce taste. Fairly silent on finish. Average,

dumontn (528) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - APR 7, 2012
Pours razor clear dark copper with perfect head and streams of effervescence. Aroma is very sweet caramel, cracked barley, spicy herbal hoppiness. Taste is full bodied toasted barley, perfect balance between sweetness and spicy herbal hops. Body is medium/full, frothy carbonation, brisk finish only leaves a hint of sweet spiciness.
