Had this on tap at the brewery restaurant in Palo Alto with their double chocolate fudge cake. It was terrific combination that I highly recommend to anyone lucky enough to visit one of the restaurants. Poured an impenetable black with a fluffy off-white head that lasted forever and left a rich set of lace rings on the glass to mark my every sip and gulp. Smells of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Tastes the same, light carbonation and smooth creamy texture, washed my heavy cake down better than milk. More sweet than bitter. I consider this schwarzbier superior to my last bottle of Köstritzer.

Opaque with ample head and lacing. A very smooth beer with a nice roasty backbone.A very thin mouthfeel and clean finish. A very good, highly drinkable session beer on tap IMO.

Draft at brewpub. Pours dark clear brown with a large tan head that lingers somewhat. Malty aroma and flavor, hints of coffee and bitter chocolate as well. Medium body and pleasant carbonation. Went well with the steak I had for dinner, but I wouldn’t to out of my way for this one.

Pretty good. A bit malty and a little bitter. The best of the regular beers at Gordon Biersch.

Draught in DC. Great looking and sweet smelling. Luckily, taste wasn’t as sweet as the aroma. Some maltiness and a decent finish with just a hint of bitterness. Not worth the trip to Washington, but made an afternoon of sightseeing a bit more tolerable.

Draught. Head is light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate, coffee), with a note of mineral/stone. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Easily the best Gordon Biersch creation I’ve had.
