Tap. Pours murky dark brown with thin, fizzy beige head; short retention and spare lacing. Aroma is faint with light roast and caramel malts, earthy hops, figs, and light coffee. Flavor is roast malt forward with some supporting hops and dark fruit esters; dry finish with a hint of roasted coffee. Light body and low carbonation.

This is another solid lager from Gordon Biersch. It’s garnet brown w/ a thin white head. It’s a touch on the sweet side which brings out some chocolatey notes. It’s mild but still very full bodied and rich w/ a porter-like character to it as you’d expect from the style. It’s really tasty and not overstated, a well-done beer for sure.

[2/20/15] Draught at Gordon Biersch Mission Valley in San Diego. Dark brown. Aroma of roast, coffee, caramel and some diacetyl. Sweetish flavor with roast, a faint buttery note, a nutty note and a drier finish with a coffee hint. Light to medium-bodied, kinda over-carbonated. Easy-drinking.

On tap @ Gordon Biersch San Jose. Dark brown color with a khaki head and some reddish highlights. A strong roasted malt note and some cola sweetness. Kind of ashy and a bit of a chocolate note. Maybe some hot cocoa mix. A bit of toasted grain to it, too. The flavor is lightly bitter and roasty. Toasted nuts, some grass, earth, and a bunch of chocolate. Good toffee and toasted bread sweetness. Not bad, I prefer it more roasty though.

Draft at Gordon Biersch in Washington, D.C. The color is dark brown almost black. The aroma and taste are of toasted and malt with a bit of cocoa and even vanilla. The feel is a bit thinner than I would like. Overall it was decent but not great.

TEJA (1821) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - NOV 4, 2014
Draught at G.B. in San Fransisco. Beige 7 brown head. Medium brown color. Roasted malt aroma. Roasted malt taste with dark roasted caramell malt that makes it too sweet for a good Schwarz beer. Fine balanced bitterness.

Transfer from BA review on 12-28-13- Served on tap in a pilsner glass Appearance – The beer is served a dark brown nearly black color with a billowy cream colored head of two fingers. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading to leave a good level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a toasted malt smell mixed with a bit of cocoa. Along with these aromas are some sweeter smells with some caramel and a bit of a sweet vanilla smell. Taste – The taste begins with a caramel sweetened and toasted malt flavor. As the taste advances from the start, some other sweeter flavors of a vanilla nature as well as a bit of a sweeter cocoa come to the tongue. The cocoa remain quite light throughout the taste while the roasted flavors intensity ever so slightly more toward the end. With a slight increase in the vanilla and caramel at the end, the combination of flavors that is left leaves a slightly sweeter and nicely toasted flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is on the lighter and slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that is average. Both are decent for the combination of the sweet with roasted flavors of the brew and match the low abv of the beer rather well. Overall – A goodt schwarzbier. Light in abv. with a decent amount of roasted and toasted flavors. A rather good session style beer.
