Watery ebony body, whitish head. Smell is roasted malts, caramel and slight chocolate. Taste is sweet with caramel and chocolate, aftertaste is roasted coffee hops. Not a bad schwarzbier, a little thin for my liking though and lacking complexity. Simple Macrobrew. Sampled at Godon Biersch, Tysons Corner, VA.

nice dark beer , intresting flavor of malt with a touch of hops. A lot different then the last few schwarzbiers then i’ve had. My favorite of the night

This beer is pretty boring, which I guess is a fit with the style (I find Schwarzbiers to be pretty unexciting), but this one registers with me overall as just sort of OK. Dark, not too roasty, inoffensive. Dry? Yes. I just can’t say much about this beer - there is not much here to describe, but there is certainly nothing off or offensive either. I don’t know whether to recommend or not...I am stumped.

One of my least favorite of the sampler. Dark looking and boring tasting would sum up my opinion of this beer.

Draft. Hazy brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, and a light sweetness. Medium body with malt sweetness upfront and notes of chocolate and fruit esters.

Pours from the tap to an old motor oil black (expected of a Schwarzbier), with a thick foamy tan head that lingers well thru the entire drink and leaves decent lacing. The nose, while somewhat muted, is licorice and a hint of roasted nuts. Mouth is very tingly, albeit a tad weak, with the taste again leaning toward licorice. Finish is of medium duration and a little watery, but overall a pretty decent beer.

At the brewpub in D.C. Deep red, almsot brown body with a white head. Light smoke aroma with some hint of honey and roasted malts. Sweet and dry taste with a hint of light grass. Ending is somewhat bland and dry.

I had a few of these on draft at the brewpub in ’Cowlumbus’ before heading over to the Rob Zombie show last night. This was my introduction to Schwarzbier. This brew pours a nearly black brown with red highlights. The average rocky tan head is fully lasting with good lacing. The bold nose though not overpowering, is clean and complex with hints of toasty roasted grain and cereal, caramel, herbs, grass, resin, leather, earth, and date. I found the moderate flavor to be slightly unbalanced leaning towards heavy roasted malt sweetness, with an earthy yeasty finish of average duration. The body is medium to full, with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. A very good brew.
