boto (1661) - Granby, Connecticut, USA - AUG 6, 2008
Draught @ Washington, DC location: This one pours an opaque brown color. There was a tight, off-white head on it that didn’t last too long but left some lacing. There were some roasted and caramel malts to the nose. It also had some earthy hop notes. The taste was along similar lines to the aroma, and was nicely balanced. Some roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, but no real sweetness. Earthiness and a touch of biscuit also. Perhaps a little nutty also. Nice.

DYCSoccer17 (3014) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 1, 2006
On tap at the Tempe, AZ location. Roasted nose with some anise that is pretty apparent. Some chocolate is also faintly present with a soft lager yeastiness in the nose. Mildly hazy mohaogany body with nice off-whitish head and fair lacing. Creamy, sweet chocolate/caramel flavors to start, which turns more roasted with a little bitterness and some anise/licorice in the finish. A good schwarzbier.

Strykzone (3816) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUL 31, 2009
By far the darkest colored beer on tap at the Las Vegas brewpub. It was quite dark with lots of red highlights. A small almost white head. Very nice richly malted flavor is roasted. Some light smoke. Their boldest beer and one of their better ones.

CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - DEC 6, 2009
On tap at the Rockville location: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a clingy-lacing froth of off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty dark caramel and roasted malt and earthy hops. Starts with a creamy fullness and some semi-sweet roasty dark malt with decent German hop balance before a bittersweet finish with some lingering roastiness. A pretty decent Schwarzbier.

SDbruboy (1864) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 17, 2005
Draft at brewpub. Pours dark clear brown with a large tan head that lingers somewhat. Malty aroma and flavor, hints of coffee and bitter chocolate as well. Medium body and pleasant carbonation. Went well with the steak I had for dinner, but I wouldn’t to out of my way for this one.
