Had on draft at Columbus Ohio location. Gold in color with large white foamy head. Smelled very lightly of malts and oranges. Taste was citrus, malts with a slight hop finish. Definitely a lighter summer beer.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 BückDich (5467) - McCall, Idaho, USA - OCT 2, 2006
Draft @ Gordon Biersch downtown DC next to the Spy Museum
Called the Sommerfest beer...Golden, light head and good lacing. Nose of light malt, some caramelly notes and a touch of hops. Moderate bitterness. The flavor is ho-hum, definately a summer beer. It’s dang hot and I’m drenched, and I still want a beer with more flavor than this.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beaconstreet (811) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 15, 2006
Had this at beautiful DC location. Called the seasonal Sommerfest, sneaking suspicion it’s this beer (it was described as a Kolsch, and even served ina proper Kolsch glass!). Good golden body, bright bouncy notes. Still a tad heavy on the palate. Great nonetheless.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheBeerGod (4133) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - JUL 21, 2006
Draft at the DC location during the RBSG DC Pub Crawl. Called the Sommerfest Kolsch on the menu, if I recall correctly. Gold bodied. Nose is faint grass, buttery biscuits and light lemon. Taste is buttery and grassy with light lemony notes and a touch of honey amongst the sweet malts. Body is light and crisp. Fine carbonation feel. Finishes with sweet malts, light honey lemon notes and grains. Some grassiness as well.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Tmoney99 (7300) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 16, 2006
Draft in Columbus, OH. Clear pale color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing in proper glass. Moderate floral sour citrus aroma. Light to medium body with soft carbonation. Medium balanced flavor with the same balanced dry finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 luvcasks (178) - USA - JUL 8, 2006
Appearance: Straw yellow with some haziness, large fluffy white head which dissipates quickly
Aroma: Low floral, noble hop aroma, distinct ale like fruit notes some malt... slight sulfury notes as the beer warms up
Flavor: Nice roundness with of malt sweetness with restrained slightly spicy hop bitterness. Some fruity flavors apparent as well. Nice dry in the finish
Palate: Medium light... strong carbonation for the style... opens light but the dry finish lasts a long time
Overall: The summerfest for 2006, is a very nice representation of a Kolsch... definitely drinkable but for a seasonal and a special beer... did not distinguish itself and came across as a heavy on the grassy notes..
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUL 4, 2006
On draught at the Kölsch tapping party 6/29/06: Pours clear golden yellow with a good amount of bubbles. Thin and bubbly white head and minimal lacing. Aroma of light floral hops and spices. Light with a lively mouthfeel, with floral hops, malt and sweet fruit flavors. The finish is dry and effervescent, with a lingering hops flavor. Pretty good all around.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GEOBRAU (185) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - FEB 27, 2005
Very pale straw color with a sustained head. Clean and refreshing with pear apple notes and a dry crisp yet subtle finish. This beer reminded me of Pinot Grigio.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 SeamusNeko (45) - Anacostia, Washington DC, USA - APR 29, 2004
Setting: Served chilled in a sample cup at the RFD Michael Jackson Beer Tasting.
Appearance: Crystal clear straw yellow topped by a smallish white head that dissipated to a film and a ring, leaving small fingers of lace clinging to the plastic.
Aroma: Lightly herby and floral aromas of noble hops. Faint whiffs of pale malts.
Flavor: Very bready malt flavors with lightly grassy and peppery hop flavors on the finish. Faint lingering banana esters on the aftertaste.
Palate: Very light in body with a crisp finish. Snappy and peppy.
Overall: Quite enjoyable and very easygoing. A great session beer. A wee bit aggressive on the grassy and bready flavors, though.
