Braumeister Selekt. This Gordon Biersch creation applies Eisbock brewing techniques to a bock made primarily from malted wheat. Eisbock was produced using a technique created by a forgetful brewer from the Kulmbach Brewery in Kulmbach, Germany, who accidentally left kegs of bock beer outside during the coldest days of winter. Our modern-day process involves freezing the water molecules out of the brew and removing the frozen portion, thus concentrating the alcohol and flavor of the resulting ale.

Nice flip top bottle. Aroma of sweet malt and grain. Pours dark amber with a decent tan head. Way too sweet, almost tastes like wheat syrup with alcohol. I had to add a lemon just to get it down. Full body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, cloyingly sweet finish. Leaves a nasty aftertaste. It’s as if they tried to make a big beer and had no idea how to balance the flavors properly. I won’t be revisiting this one.

Bottle. Pours cloudy dark brown, deep tan/brown head. Aroma is sweet and caramelly. Taste is sweet - very - and a slight bit of roast at the back. Can taste the alcohol. Gets more boozy as things progress. Not bad (well, these days, definitely ok with beer inflation) at $3/bomber on the discount rack, no way worth the $8-10 they were trying to charge a bit ago.

Wow this was disappointing. The alcohol was really hot and masked most every other flavor. Maybe I had a bad bottle, but it did not live up to its reviews. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer is 10% alc/vol but I wouldn’t have guess it to be over 7. Overall very drinkable for what it is. Makes you wish you were in a cabin in the middle of a snow storm. Fairly strong banana taste, Nice toasted wheat flavor, but pretty much overwhelmed by banana. A touch of chocolate. Nice amount of bitterness.

Bottle from BevMo, Deep ruby in color. Super sweet nose. Some dark fruit and candy sugar. A little alcohol as well. Really sweet up front. Dark fruit and a hint of alcohol as well. Drinkable. Not great for the style.

Bottle. Pours a murky, dark reddish brown. The head is an initial fizz, then runs. The aroma is bready and musty. The beer drinks with some rich alcohol-laced fruitiness, raisin primarily. This doesn’t come with as much body or depth as I’d hoped. (#5213, 8/25/2013)

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2013 This is a really nice beer to have with just about anything. The beer drinks quickly and the mild carbonation makes this happen. This is what I would call semi-sweet and the super dark appearance adds to this mysterious brew. I taste caramel, resin, raisin, vanilla, molasses and a slight hint of cereal. This is quite well-balanced and pretty admirable. Found four bottles at Rip’s Wine and Spirits Shop in Bowie. Score!

Smells wheaty and malty with citrus out the wazoo. Brown as can be without being black and tan head. Tastes citrusy but chocolaty at the same. Like one of those cholocate oranges that you only see around christmas time. Kind of a creamy after taste. This beer is comlex as fuck. I’m getting a lot of different sights/smells out of this. It’s really f-ing good. Gonna drink it again in the future. Thanks Kevin!
