COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle and can.
Ingredients: Water, Malt, Sugar, Hops.
In 1992, Gordon launches Finest Gold, a strong and refined beer with a typically Scottish character, combining the forces of charm and persuasion. Its origins and its strength (10% degrees of alcohol) give it its smooth taste and explosive nature. The taste of this incomparable beer is nevertheless entirely suited to the new demand of its many enthusiasts. Gordon Finest Gold is today available in 33 cl and 50 cl cans.

I always have this one draught from keg, so maybe the experience differs a bit. Pours a dark bronze-orange liquid, with a big and dense fluffy head that collapses quickly. Flavour is malty and sugary, with a dry and bitter finnish that does little to hide the alcohol.

Bottle. BBD 29.11.13, drank 15.2.14. Clear gold with white film. Lager aroma - a little oxidized, some grain and minerals.Bitter, then a sweet kick and booziness. Medium-bodied, smooth, sweetish finish. Could’ve been worse.

Blonde pour with a disappearing head, malt aroma with an unfortunate nail varnish note. Taste is very sweet, again nail varnish with an unpleasant bitter chemical finish

33 cl bottle, 10%. Dark gold color, thick white head. Alcoholic and syrupy nose. Aroma is malty, syrupy with brandy and solvents (kinda whiteboard marker). Taste is sweetish with an alcoholic bitterness afterwards. Full bodied, creamy texture, thick, sticky, low carbonation. Chemical esters and fuel notes.

Higher than usual b/c it’s enjoyable on a cold day; it’s basically a malt liquor or high-gravity lager with better-quality ingredients than it is a BSA. But still holds its 10% well, even if there’s not much Belgian about it.

Bottle from Bert’s Bierhuis. The beer has a golden color and small white head, CO2 is a little low. In the aroma tones of honey, grass, caramel and a little alcohol. The taste is very sweet with a lot of alcohol taste. The finish is very bitter, which is a little annoying. I don’t know what a else to say about this beer, because I really don’t like this. It’s just as bad as the most Imperial Pilsners in Holland.

330 ml bottle bought at Belgian Beer International in Tsuen Wan.

Clear golden amber colour; Half finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing with quite fizzy carbonation; Sweet smell of lager malt, with syrup, light dull perfume, light bubble gum, faint wet cardboard and faint grass; Very sweet taste of lager malt, with pretty strong alcohol, medicine syrup, flashes of nectar, light bread, light liquorices, faint lemon and grass; Mid to light body, watery and slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is 100% European Strong Pale Lager: taste is lager malt, sugary sweet, remarkable alcohol, quite malty (at least no corn here), and low-fi hops. The sickly sweet medicine syrups and dull nectar pretty much characterize the Mocny nature of this brew; The 10% abv is initially loud to make its presence felt, but stay quiet along the way, only the sweetness is a little annoying. Okay… Hoppiness is Mocny standard: faint grassy nose, comfy lemon and grass taste. Liquorices is noticeable for a low and semi long bitter-sweet finish; Wet after taste, sweet and boozy to mouth.

Comments: This is definitely a Strong Pale Lager and just because it was brewed in Belgium, there is not a hint to indicate this fits the style group of Belgian Strong Ale. As a Euro Strong Pale / Mocny, this is quite decent - okay nose, good maltyness, no other adjucts and fusels, sweetness and booze is very strong but not too demanding, and hopiness is stronger than most SPLs. Better than most SPLs and Super Strengths and approach it that way and you’ll be okay.
