well, this is slightly better than the platinum, but not by much... not quite sure how this is a scottish ale, just seems a regular ruby/red one to me... strong presence of alcohol but some sweet and hoppy tastes are discernible

After trying their boring Finest Silver, their atrocious Finest Gold and even worst Finest Platinum I decided to be braver than a cat walking in the back alley of an American Chinese restaurant and give the Finest Red a try. Clear dark golden body with a small but long lasting off-white head. Despite the color I didn’t find any roasted malts or caramel flavour in there. The sweetness of medium level tasted half-honey half-candy-sugar. Actually that sweetness flavour and a few woody notes are pretty much all there is about that beer. A little grass in the finish and that’s it. 8.4% is apparent.

Bottle: First off the bottle presentation is awesome and nice to look at, with all the lines as writing in white which brings out the red. Poured a red amber with a thin white head. Fruity sorta cherry aroma. The taste was sweet berry malt flavor, very candy and lasting finish. The best Gordon I have had from the finest series!

On tap at Gollem. Fruity, cherry aroma. Sugary, carbonated ale with caramel flavour. Spicy and high-alcohol taste. Syrupy finish.

Bottled(330ml). -Nice reddish/amber coloured, huge white head, odd sweet nose. The aroma is too sweet malty and faint fruity with some odd oily and perfumy rose notes. Drinkable but a way too sweet.

can, 8.4%. Clear chestnut colour, stable light brown head. The aromais perfumy and has estery yeast notes and pepper. Flavour is spicy, perfumy, sweet and peppery, strangely sugary. The mouthfeel is a bit thin for its ABV.

Can: Good looking ale, a reddish orange with an initially decent head. I’d like this alot more if the nose and taste were stronger. It has an aroma of caramel with a touch of butterscotch and sweet cherries(?). It tastes fruity with a sweet caramel base, some butterscotch, and a hint of wood. The sturdy ABV is well hidden until after the swallow. Drinkable and okay, but not at all what I’d expected from the style.

Reddish amber ale with a thick moka head, overflowing (from a can???). Aroma odf sweet beet juice, caramel and light sulfur notes. In mouth, a sweet butterscotch, with a rather dry alcohol finish, short and sweet. Overall, a sweet cloying beer, in line with other fine malt liquors made by John Martin. The high class eurobums will love this. Bieropholie imports.

Can (8.4%). Amber clear colour with a weak head. Aroma of soft malt, roastedness with some oak too. Light flavour of malt and some oakness. Ends up little alcoholic.
