Rossa scura con una schiuma poco compatta, gusto che tende al dolce, molto bevibile ma niente di eccezionale.

Reddish amber ale with a thick moka head, overflowing (from a can???). Aroma odf sweet beet juice, caramel and light sulfur notes. In mouth, a sweet butterscotch, with a rather dry alcohol finish, short and sweet. Overall, a sweet cloying beer, in line with other fine malt liquors made by John Martin. The high class eurobums will love this. Bieropholie imports.

Sept, 2007 330ml bottle from Carrefour, France. A soft, sweetish strong beer with mild spice notes. Alcohol fumes. It’s a little rough round the edges, but is easy drinking and mostly quite pleasant. It’s possibly a strong lager rather than either a Scotch Ale or Barley Wine. I detect few ale notes. [2.4]
Jan, 2013 500ml can from Carrefour in Tamur, Belgium. Cheap can of strong lager. Amber coloured with malty flavours. An Ambree or Amber lager or Vienna lager, depending on which country it’s brewed in. Quite soft. Whiskey aroma and flavour notes from some added artificial whiskey flavouring. Sweet caramel notes. Pleasant and easy drinking. [2.6]

Clear reddish - deep amber body. Off-white head, fastly diminishing. Weak aroma, bit malty and alcoholic. Lightly bitter, moderately sweet flavour. Quite weak and uninteresting, I would not say bad, just very unpronounced flavour.
Earlier Rating: 11/26/2003 Total Score: 3.7
Bottled A pale red colour, with a reddish head. A quite sweet and malt aroma. It tastes like Gordon X-mas: malty, spicy and sweet. I'm quite astonished when I see that the other raters don't like the flavour as much as I do.

December 2006 review from BA: I bought this can from a Night Shop in Brussels, as I staggered back to my hotel after an evening of beer tasting. Thank God I didn’t drink it that night, or my head would have exploded. There would have been blood all over the bathroom mirror and all sorts of problems with getting my body home etc. The 8.4% alcohol takes over this drink completely. It looked very good, poured into my Gordon’s Thistle glass. not really red, more a copper/amber colour, but bright and clean looking. Caramel and yeast, no other aroma. Strange taste, not an Irish Red, nor a Belgian Red, more like a dark lager, sweet, but also a dryness which takes away the flavour of malts and hops. A battle between the sweet and dryness is not won by either side and the aftertaste just goes. I would rather have two tasty 4.2% beers than this alcohol laden brew, but as a one off, not a bad beer.
