2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20

Hard to imagine this was once a benchmark of the style Hard to imagine I once so sought it out. Decent rocky magnolia head. Deep brown with some orange sparkle. Fizzy. Confected artificial musty nose. Malty. Dash of clove. Dirty quality. Dry rough end. Still have a lot of affection for this old stalwart though.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Strong malty aroma, caramel, chocolate, hint of citrus, herbal, opaque deep redbrown, big tan head stays awhile, some lacing, malty sweetbitter, creamy texture, full-bodied, malty sweetness continues but bitterness remains for a slightly dry smooth finish, well-balanced beer

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Definitely a must taste; rich in flavour (and somewhat in alcohol), delicate and smooth to the finish. A lovely head, excellent palate and colour. Now brewed in Belgium in seems, probably at Steenhuffel. Available in my local Brussels pub!

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Brownish colour and a little muddy to look at, with a fairly low tan head. Aroma is generally malty; certainly lacks and of the refined toffee or peaty notes of a true scotch ale. The flavour is richly malty with some warmth from alcohol; well balanced and pleasant but once again a purist would say not a scotch ale.
Enjoyable drink that stands well amongst a list of typical Begian beers (some of these "scotch ales" are appearing in Belgian pubs)
