Gordon Scotch Ale was born in the limpid highlands among isolated lochs and haunting Scottish castles. This brown beer, reminiscent of a dark ruby, is full of contrast - both strong and smooth. Its creamy head is delectation for the palate. This unique nectar can also be discovered under the name of Douglas Scotch Ale. Has been renamed ’Finest Scotch’ in 2006.
Note: ABV at some point from 8.6% to 8%.

0.33L bottle. Pours clear mahoganey with a forthy, off-white head. Aromas of overripe fruit, herby hop, leather, caramel. Flavor is quite sweet, with lots of caramel and cereal grain flavors. Mellows out in the middle, then transitions to mild, herby hop linger that numbs the tongue with some hints of wood / vanilla. Full body with a sticky mouthfeel and active carbonation. Overall, although on the sweeter side, it manages to balance out into a pretty tasty, drinkable beer. Not complex, but emphasizes malt well.

Bottle. Dark brown color and lasting head. Aroma is sweet and it has caramel and roasted malt. Taste is malty, quite sweet and ends with a long lasting caramel, roasted aftertaste. Flavors of licorice, smoke, chocolate and some dry fruits. Also some warmth with the alcohol.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 9E). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 3.25 14:39. AROMA: very present and somewhat artificial, sweet malty caramel aroma. alcohols have a slight solventy character. no hop aromas. APPEARANCE: ruby color and clear. good moussy head with low retention. low alcohol derived viscosity. TASTE: sweet caramel like flavours with notes of roasted malt. no hop flavours and low bitterness. finishes sweet. PALATE: medium body with medium-low carbonation. low alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a scotch ale that gives an artifical impression with strong caramel flavours.
