Gordon Scotch Ale was born in the limpid highlands among isolated lochs and haunting Scottish castles. This brown beer, reminiscent of a dark ruby, is full of contrast - both strong and smooth. Its creamy head is delectation for the palate. This unique nectar can also be discovered under the name of Douglas Scotch Ale. Has been renamed ’Finest Scotch’ in 2006.
Note: ABV at some point from 8.6% to 8%.

Brownish colour and a little muddy to look at, with a fairly low tan head. Aroma is generally malty; certainly lacks and of the refined toffee or peaty notes of a true scotch ale. The flavour is richly malty with some warmth from alcohol; well balanced and pleasant but once again a purist would say not a scotch ale. Enjoyable drink that stands well amongst a list of typical Begian beers (some of these "scotch ales" are appearing in Belgian pubs)

Bottle. Pours a deep red with a one-finger off-white head. Aroma of malt, fruits, spices and alcohol. Taste is of malt, caramel, fruits, sugars, spices and bitter hops. Full body and soft carbonation. Sweet with a bitter finish. Pretty good.

Beautiful red with huge head. Nose is very malty, malts and alcohol dominate the taste. Not my kind of beer

Fine scotch indeed. Intense maltiness and caramel, toast, dried plums, some floral hops, bit herbal. Moderate sweetness with light bitterness. Feels well balanced with dry finish. Lovely.

Malty, sweet aroma, a bit too sweet. Very sweet taste. Everything about this brew is too sweet for me. Some hints of honey. Tastes like new shoes. Not bad but not my kind of beer.

Donker bruine kleur. Geur: rozijntjes. Smaak: zoet, gekarameliseerd. Afdronk: bitter. Complex bier!

The color is beautiful reddish-brown and the foam is very impressive and durable. It smells a lot of fruit (plum and raisin) and malt. The taste is dominated by hard roasted malt, caramel and good ripe fruit. Finally sensed citrus and a light hop bitterness. Fruit flavor is still the most significant. I had probably expected a more malty ale, like most Scottish ale used to be. This does not mean that this is boring, but just a little different.

Sampled from a 33cl bottle at 8% ABV (although it tastes stronger). Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue, and a whitish head. Medium carbonation. Malt and molasses in the aroma and sweetish taste with hints of mild coffee and treacle. Good bitterness and a great, slightly oily, mouthfeel. A very pleasant beer if you don’t mind its sweetness and strength. A good autumnal beer.

Draught. Tan head above an intense dark chocolate beer. The aroma is very toasted: malt, hints of caramel, brown sugar, maybe even molasses - not a directly hitting sweetness, but more rounded and toasted, deeper, much more suitable for a beer. After the first sip, right away, a spoonful of rich oily toasted malt flavour, this time slightly sweeter than I like. Further into the beer, you notice the medium to full body, very intense and pleasant, with a very long oily finish (not creamy, but oily) that lingers way until you take the next sip. The finish lacks the sweetness of the beer itself, coming down to a coffee-like rounded hop bitterness, like for stout beers, together with a discernible bite of the alcohol. Carbonation is soft. Overall, a fairly nice beer, despite the rather sweet taste that could spoil it for some.
