This bottle has at least a couple of years on it. We nearly opened it last winter. Pours brown with light brown edges and thin tan head. The aroma is malty sweet with loads of molasses to go along with earthiness, yeasty spice and curdled grape puree. The taste begins with even smooth dark fruitiness moving into molasses, earthiness, candi sugar and some yeasty spice. Nicely aged and tasting very good.

sebletitje (7798) - Enghien, BELGIUM - DEC 20, 2008
750ml bottle bought at Delhaize - FoodLions in Belgium. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma of dark fruits and malts. Taste is caramel malty, thick mouthfeel with lingering dark fruits - cherry and prunes - and candi sugar topping the whole for a sweet and yet warming boozy finish. I grew up loving all of the John Martin beers especially their Xmas beer; one that always had a good spot in our fridge.

A clear dark brown colored beer, with a thick beige head. The aroma of sweets, with malt and a little cherry. The taste of sweet caramel, sweet fruits and alcohol. It is a little bitter. The aftertaste is sweet with somme bitter. The sweet lingers on like sugar sweet.

Thanks retorp for the share. Brown pour with off white head. Aroma has fruity sugar and alcohol. Flavor is similar with smoke, earth, molasses, and brown sugary plum. Finishes off with sweetness. Musical beer.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2009 A dark feast beer with little but creamy head. A bittersweet taste, slightly sweet to start with and bitters that stay present for a longer time. A nice beer for once in a while.

330ml bottle - - Gallows Bird, Espoo
Beautiful deep red, luscious thick self-supporting creamy head. Rich mmmi and raisin aroma. Soft carbonation on the tongue. Initial spicy taste, but quickly a wave of very dry nuttiness - so dry it is almost papery. Aroma also shows the spice. A curious combination of the sweet, smooth, and sticky with the drying. Pleasant nutty finish. Covers 8.8% very well. Scores fairly well everywhere, but does not wow me. Definitely pretty good, just no wow.
