This is such a cool time of year to live in Belgium, what with these holiday beers. You’ve gotta love the snowy pattern on the red cap foil. 33 cL enjoyed at home... Pours ruddy brown with ruby highlights, cream-colored head recedes to a frothy film. Cherries, dark chocolate and spices are swirling around in that aroma. Tastes only mildly sweet in a way that seems restrained for a Belgian, with an overly clean layer of bitterness that nonetheless offers balance and lasts. Maybe a touch clean and metallic, but still interesting. Average carbonation. More dry, hoppy character than I expected, yet warming... not bad at all.

My 300th Belgian beer!!
Poured in my Trappist glass. A clear dark raisin-brown colour with a steady, creamy off-white head on top. Medium lacing. Aroma has slight roasted caramel, Belgian sugars and slight port. Nice, well-rounded mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet with a definite malty presence, bread, biscuit, caramel and burnt tones. Finish is relatively vinious with a peppery bitterness at the far end. Very warming sensation, really soothing a sore throat, I have.

Tasted 22. Nov -07. Had a sweet almost burnt aroma. I thought I could detect some hay like characteristic. The flavor disappointed a bit: It was thinner than I thought when smelling the beer, but had some spices and pepper.

Bottle (cell phone rating). Dark amber, off white head. Sweet aroma of brown sugar, caramel, some alcohol and some metal. Flavour is sweet brown and candied sugar, roasted malt with a burnt bitterness in the end.

Bottle, 8.8%. BB 2003, 4 years ago. Slightly earthy aroma. Dark brown colour. The flavour is also quite earthy, with some sweet malt and a hint of pepper. Finishes with a little rough bitterness. Too old for me.

Bottle. Large thick and creamy like beige head which lasted. Very nice display of lacework. Aroma of light ashtray, hint of smoke, dry fruit, caramel, toasted malty notes. Medium to full bodied with an average carbonation and light alcoholic texture. Nice malty base flavor with light notes of bitterness. Fruity sweet finish. Quit nice!
