In short: A heavy rich sweet dark ale with a lot of leafy hops. Weirdly interesting.
How: Bottle 330ml. Winter 2008/2009 (I think) . Consumed when about 1 year of age
The look: Clear dark ruby body topped by a medium beige head with medium retention
In long: Nose sweet malts with molasses, black liquorice and the likes Taste is very sweet, molasses, sweet plums, cloves, ripe bananas, white sugar, syrup of some kind, toffee, butterscotch. The beer is also very hoppy with plenty of leafy hops that almost balance the heavy sweetness. Something oily/buttery about the beer. I thought the beer was a little strange. Like some kind of buttery scotch ale with a ton of hops. I enjoyed it but I wouldnt drink more than a little bottle. Prides itself to be the beer that initiated the Christmas beer tradition. Christmas beer, why not? Belgium, making excuses to drink beer since 1836.

Dark toffee colored, ruby tinted pour. Big puffy off-white head. Slow to fall and plenty of lacing when it decides to do so. Malty vanilla aroma with some caramel. A very slight acetic note. Taste is spot on with the aroma minus the vinegar. Very smooth sweet finish. Awesome beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(expiry 2014) pours unclear light brown, red tint, with a decent light beige head, some retention and lacing. toasted caramel and caramelized nuts, toffee sweetness, woodsy, stale hops, dash of dirt, spices, bit of bubblegum, grass, pepper. average carbonation, medium body - oily, some sweetness, sweet and grassy-herbal-peppery slightly harsh finish. not my cup of tea but not badly crafted either. DP.

Nose is dust, chestnut, sugar, a little burnt caramel, hazelnut. Taste is toffee, caramel, sugar, peppermint clove spices butter / chocolate in the finish. Mouthfeel is slick Its a surprisingly well spiced beer, the flaw is the underlying beer is a little bland and overly dry relative to the spices. As others have noted the label is beautiful.

33cl bottle served in a Delirium Noel glass. Pours a translucent dark brown which when held to the light shines a nice garnet colour. Mouthfeel is medium to thin with a nice balance of carbonation. Aroma is malt and spices. Taste is toffee, molasses and spices with quite a pronounced bitterness. Tastes like a Scottish style Belgian (ala McChouffe) with added spices. OK but not up to the other Belgian Xmas ales.

Bottle at home, courtesy of Cuso. Pours brown color, lightly beige head. Aroma is sweet, spicy, dark berries, cinnamon. Taste is sweet, spicy, cinnamon, bit roasted malt, some hops.

BOTTLE 33 CL. The aroma starts with loads of sticky caramel, pure sugar lollipop, cotton candy. The flavour is also mostly burned sugar, with hints of warming alcohol and spicy hops. Behind these, you can pick up some lageresque sulphury notes. As it warms up the sulphur is replaced by fruit - overripe apricot. The body is solid. The finish is spicy bitter. Quite nice.

Rated from beer log from 2009 Belgian Trip.... 2003 Vintage... Candi sugar aroma, mildly aromatic, brown caramel in color... Fairly cloudy, minimal head, flavor is sweet like a typical dubbel with minimal bitterness, not very balanced... Tastes like Im drinking dessert, finish is sweet candi sugar... Decent beer, but not terribly complex... Hides the 8.8% very well

Poured a dark amber with a very thick beige head. Very malty, sweet aroma. Light smokiness. Flavor is mostly malt. Nice.
