Bottled (8.8%). Dark amber colour with small beigeish head. Aroma of alcohol caramel and some malts. Also some plummy hints. Flavour is plummy sweet with some sour hints. Plummy aftertaste. Hides alcohol well, palate is a bit sticky, but still pleasant.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Onlyfineales.com This poured red/amber with an off-whire head, there was also quite a noticeable amount of carbonation. A slightly metallic nose like copper coins as Loz pointed out reminded one of a canned beer. Chewy soft fudge taste, nice and full bodied, a touch sweet but a very decent beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice dark brown coloured body with a dense off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and definitely some nuts. Medium-bodied; Spicey malt up front fades to nuts, alcohol later on. Aftertaste shows complexity - a nice deep spice plus some very potent pit fruit flavours. Overall, a good beer - nothing tremendous, but finding this in a little market in Bruxelles speaks volumes. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from a small little market off Ave. Louise in Bruxelles, Belgium on 01-January-2008.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 19, 2006 Bottled, blind tasting session: What happened to this beer the past 2? years? This used to be one of my favorites. So full and roasted, licorice, complex yet highly drinkable. And now? It’s so damned sweet! There’s still some cherry, plum, laurel and licorice but overwhelmed by the sweetness. Did InBev buy John Martin? Bottled, Sep 02, 3.8: Not much aroma at first due to the large head but when warming it becomes yeasty with raisins. Deep red color, light brown head, good lace. Very sweet and sugary start that even increases, light bitter start that increases as well, raisin, hint of varnish. Alcoholic feeling, sticky, warming, good body.
