Best Xmas beer I have tasted - I like the fact it is less sweet than other Xmas beers. Spicey on the palate, and a good long botter finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 19, 2006 Bottled, blind tasting session: What happened to this beer the past 2? years? This used to be one of my favorites. So full and roasted, licorice, complex yet highly drinkable. And now? It’s so damned sweet! There’s still some cherry, plum, laurel and licorice but overwhelmed by the sweetness. Did InBev buy John Martin? Bottled, Sep 02, 3.8: Not much aroma at first due to the large head but when warming it becomes yeasty with raisins. Deep red color, light brown head, good lace. Very sweet and sugary start that even increases, light bitter start that increases as well, raisin, hint of varnish. Alcoholic feeling, sticky, warming, good body.

Very strong and malty brew, i always have to be in the mood to have beers like these, otherwise you can forget it. Very malty and strong, with a bitter finish, kind of satisfying in a way, quite a smooth body, and a bit of a punch in the face.
