3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark and clear ruby red with small ivory head, nice lacing. Muscat wine aroma, with raisins, dates, caramel, glacé cherries. The taste, as expected, is quite sweet - all the elements alluded to in the aroma are also reflected in the flavour. Just enough bitterness to stop it becoming excessively cloying. Full bodied, oily and hides the ABV well. This one remind me of an english barleywine with some xmas style additions. Nice winter sipper.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
330mL bottle from International Beer Collector - BB 13.08.15
Deep bronze body, some clarity, holds a dense beige head and lace.
Aroma is seriously intense, very fortified-wine like indeed! Raisins, sultanas, rich caramel, burnt toffee, nougat, toasted nuts, brown sugar, dates, Christmas pudding - pretty much all things that are rich, dark and sweet!
Sticky, chewy, low carbonation, long on the finish, slight warmth.
Once again, port comes to mind - lovely sweet nutty, sultanas, dried fruits, lots of caramel and sticky toffee and sticky date pudding. Bitterness subdued, very sweet overall.
Really nice flavour, certainly an after-dinner sort of beer - couldn’t drink a lot of it but damn tasty.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Lovely compact creamy foam. The aroma is most marked by dark malt with a little sprinkling of nuts and licorice. The taste is something sweety in the beginning, but also a little taste of fig and dried fruit. Ells body and richness is difficult to define because of the aforementioned sweetness that unfortunately pursues taste long, and also kills the flavor impression as the aroma revealed. My best bet for a little body of this ale is something with overcooked vegetables. A somewhat confused and messy ale, which certainly is not tainted by Christmas, besides of course the overly pronounced sweetness.
Belgian beer is therefore not always equal good quality (as many believe). Unfortunately, there are examples which are either neutral or abandoned and taste as it moves into a more extreme effect where it becomes too monotonous in its entirety. Towards the end we meet a little roasted malt aftertaste together with a subtle hoppy bitterness evoke the memory of the good Belgian brew a little back to life. The alcohol is 8.8%, so I think it will win new terms of taste terrain if it is stored under favorable conditions for 2-3 years.

33cl bottle. For I follow the John Martin Gordon series with great interest, I knew I would love this Xmas too. A dark beer, which colours the glass brown to deep red. The head is beige, brown. It is sweet, fairly malt and has a great alcohol ending.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rated from beer log from 2009 Belgian Trip.... 2003 Vintage... Candi sugar aroma, mildly aromatic, brown caramel in color... Fairly cloudy, minimal head, flavor is sweet like a typical dubbel with minimal bitterness, not very balanced... Tastes like I’m drinking dessert, finish is sweet candi sugar... Decent beer, but not terribly complex... Hides the 8.8% very well
