(draught at the Yard House in San Diego) deep, deep brown with small tan head. Rich malt aroma. Smooth, sweet malt flavor. I first had this over 20 years ago in Austria--it's as good as I remember it being.

A very drinkable and enjoyable beer to drink and rate as it was easy on the palate and it was not bitter tasting. It poured a small sized tan head with fine-medium sized bubbles that mostly dissipated. The body was opaque and uncarbonated with a brown hue.The nose was lightly malty and caramel. The flavor was sweet and had a caramel flavor as well. The mouthfeel was smooth and light bodied. This beer left a fair amount of lacing on the sides of my glass.A pretty good beer!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Funny, the bottle said "Best before end: October, 2001". This low ABV brew must get better with age then because It was fine and very tasty. It poured a medium sized head offine to medium sized mostly lasting bubles that left behind a semi transparent dark brown colored carbonated body. It had a strong caramel mollasses malt aroma and a lightly bubbly mouthfeel that was smooth throughout except after it warmed a bit when a slight acidic note was added. I added this after after reading the other comments, it must loose some of the carbonation with time as noted in the other reviews. I wonder what this brew tastes like when it is fresher? It is very good as it is.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Coke-like brown color. Didn't show a great head in my glass, just a small beige layer... Rather subtle caramel and roasted malt aroma. Sweet, warm malt taste, leading to some dry bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied, not bad, not too exciting either.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Subdued malty aroma on a dark ruby beer with a creamy head. The flavor's got nice toffee notes. Ends with a dry malt finish.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark Brown colour with middling malty head, had from pressure tap in Trieste, Italy. Sweet malt flavours dominate although thinner than I expected. Highly carbonated, so much so that i was difficult to drink. Some bitterness but mostly balnd.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brownish amber color, small off white foamy head that faded slowly.Malty sweet aroma with a slight amount of hops and caramel.Malty taste, sweet caramel quite fizzy on the tongue from the carbonation, very slight hop presence in the flavor. The after taste was malty sweet mild hop bitterness with a light feel in the mouth.A very drinkable brew just a tad sweet but it doesn't get to over powering.well worth getting.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This beer pours a dark amber color that is slightly transparent with a medium white head and no lacing on the glass. There really isn't any aroma that I can find. The flavor is sweet and has a slightly carmel-like taste. Very good and pretty smooth. Slightly dry aftertaste. Good beer for drinking several of but it doesn't have a ton of special character.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2005 Delicious. A lightly sweet, rather malty and substantial dunkel that doesn’t skimp. Dark brown in color and much like a brown ale. Utterly delicious and representative of my type of beer. Polished off my pint in no time flat.

Dark; I was expecting a pilsner from Austria and am pleasantly surprised. Reminiscent of Xingu. Very nice and a bit sweet in the body.
