The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness. 11.8°

Brown colour, white foam which dissolves quickly. Mild smell. Strong coffee taste. Tastes like stripped down Guinness.

Bottle (330ml bought in Split, Croatia):
Dark, quite rich aroma from this one with some roasted malts and a nutty smell too. There is some caramel and light toffee notes along with some burnt sugar, touches of chocolate and darker fruits too.
Black with a tiny, mainly bubbly off-white coloured head that is short lived and as such a bit disappointing.
Sweet to begin with along with lots of sugar and a touch of lighter coffee. I could detect some caramel, toffee and dark fruits such a figs and raisins.
Smooth with a good amount of carbonation, a medium body and plenty of sweetness. It goes down well, with a dry but not overly dry finish.

Very nice to drink and somewhat surprising considering I found this one in a Croatian supermarket in the height of summer. Even in almost 40 degree heat this one went down well with a solid flavour and great taste.

Bottle- almost black with beige head into glass, more reddish brown when held to light, roasted malt and chocolate with light hop, a decent easy drinking brew.

330ml bottle. Pours a nice dark brown with a red hue and has a half inch tan head that fades fast. Taste is of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some caramel. Has a roasted malt and caramel aroma. The body is mostly full, but slightly on the thin side. Rather sweet and reminds me of a flat Coke. Very easy to drink and a great thirst quencher, but not overly great.

The head is ok, the body dark brown. It tastes sweet creamy, roasty, maltaromatic. A good beer! 12/12/11/12/13/12

Smells of roasted malt, coffee and grass. There is also some yeast but roasted aroma dominate. Mouthfeel is creamy, little watery with light carbonation. This beer I could easly find and when I like to drink black beer this one I choose.

Draught at mike’s Place, Tel Aviv. Sold as house specialty beer, like in many other places in Israel. In the darkness looks almost opaque dark brown with a condensed, creamy white head. Fresh grainy caramel aroma, a little wet earth. Fresh mild bitterness, malty. Medium body, lively carbonation, caramel finish. Pretty good.

Bottle ftom BCA Extra, Bp. Reddish dark brown colour with a creamy beige head, which remains finger thick. Malty aroma with caramel, dough and toasted malt underpainted by some hops. The slick mouthfeeled brew finishes sweetbitter and medium dry escorted by bread-crust and spices. Good, enjoyable.

BCA extra, Budapest.
