3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 dreamloomer (66) - Warsaw, POLAND - AUG 7, 2010
Drank as Gösser Dark.
Cola-like colour.
Strong aroma, with fresh hops and a bit of roasty and caramel notes.
Very full taste. The first impression is caramelly dryness, then hoppiness with a bit of malt and finally the roasty bitterness in the aftertaste.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 thirstyrabbit (478) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JUL 31, 2010
500 ml bottle. Pours out nice and dark with a fine head. Malts and caramel dominate the flavour but the mouthfeel is a bit watery. Too much molasses taste. I guess it goes well with meals and balances spicy foods.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 RichieMac3 (10) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - JUL 10, 2010
Has a slight metallic aroma. Pours very brown with a minimal white head. Taste a bit like a dunkelweis without the spice and herb flavors. A short roasted malt flavor in the aftertaste lingering slightly dry on the tongue. Overall not a beer I would grab again, but is light enough in flavor to introduce someone to a darker beer without scaring them away.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 CanIHave4Beers (2002) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - JUL 7, 2010
Pours a nice deep reddish brown, almost a ruby color when held up to the light. The beer has a nice but small tight head that leaves some lace. The aroma on this is odd, not bad but odd. Plenty of fruit and sweet cereal grain, lightly smoky and woody, and mildly roasty. But most of all it’s got an overwhelming character of sweet breakfast cereal. The flavor is more complex, or at least tied together better. There is still a sweetness but it’s far more chocolaty and malty than "breakfast-cereal" like. Light smoky hints tease complexities like earthy woodiness and herbal hoppiness. This is a nice mildly sweet very rich take on the dunkel style!
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 durhambeer (2028) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUN 12, 2010
Bottle from A Southern Season. Pours a little darker than expected, and the nose has more roast and sweet dark malt than I thought. Assertive for a dunkel, almost porter-like. Taste comes through thinner as cheap caramel. Not bad, but not so great.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 ComradeK (466) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - JUN 7, 2010
330ml bottle. Pours a hazy chocolate brown, with little to no head. There are some weak grassy hops, and a lot of sickly caramel malt in the finish. The palate is far too watery, and the finish too sticky. Not a great dunkel.
1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 Cuso (1485) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - MAY 27, 2010
Bottle. Dark brown color. Aroma, caramel. Taste, caramel with bit bitterness, sweet finish. Not for me.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 unclemattie (3244) - Georgia, USA - APR 30, 2010
Green, 12oz bottle. Brown cap. Why is it called stifts? Is it STRONGER than the Export. No, it is not. Brown color, light tan, tall creamy head. Aroma of cocoa. Yum.
Flavor of roasted barley. Very yum. It has a very smooth, creamy body. Nice flavor of burnt grains, light chocolate. Most of all, I think I found my new favorite Dunkel. Yum
