COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness. 11.8°

The aroma was WOW, malty and chocolately with a strong depth of character and a nutty and toasty Munich malt presence. The aroma had a light bit of spicy hop nature and even a light smoky phenolic. Complex and interesting! The beer poured into the glass crystal clear amber brown with a beige/tan well lasting head which rose tall and fell very slowly to lace the glass. The flavor was nicely malty with more toasty and nutty Munich malt characteristics and a lightly spicy hop character with decent bittering which kept the caramel of the malt in check. The flavor contained a light bit of that same smoky phenolic which added depth to the beer. The finish was dry with lasting flavors lingering into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a moderate level of carbonation and an almost creamy nature on the palate. This one is a winner folks, getcha some! 12 ounce green bottle.

Bottle… Clear burnt amber lager with orange highlights and a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. The sweet aroma is a bit chocolaty and caramelized with good roasted, smoky notes and a light whiff of skunk. The flavor is well-roasted with subtle chocolate, smoke and coffee essences, but leans way over onto the sweet side of balance… only a rumor of anything resembling lupulin. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, chocolaty, cloyingly sweet finish.

This is a nice beer which secured its place in my top 10., Its full of flavour and aroma. For its 4.5% it surely doesn’t feel weak. Well balanced. As mentioned before it goes well with a dinner

500ml bottle.
Dark brown, slightly fizzy but no real head. Sweet chocolatey aroma. Fizzy in the mouth. The chocolate and sweetness carry over into the taste. Slightly watery and sweet. Slight blue cheese at the start of each mouthful . Nice burnt element, but could have been a lot better if brewed to a less kvassy strength. (5-3-7-2-10=2.7)
Rerate: (5-4-6-3-11=2.9)
Dark red, small head. Dry husky grainy aroma. Very dry palate. Simple dark lager - drinkable, but too drying to be a thirst quencher. Mostly malt, bugger all hops.
