COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness. 11.8°

330 ml. bottle from Systembolaget. Labeled as "Dark Beer", 4,5 % alc. Dark amber colour with a medium sixed creamy off-white, lasting head. Light sweet malts and light bitter hoppy aroma. Lightly bitter taste, with a nice creamy texture, and soft carbonation. Light bitter notes in the finish, where some caramel malts also kicks in. Very nice dunkel.

Tried as Gosser Dark in 500mL bottle. poured almost black with beige head into glass, more reddish brown when held to light, roasted malt and chocolate with light hop, a decent easy drinking brew.

Bottle from May 2011, best by 09.2011. Nose is sweet and malty, dark burned toffee and caramel and light, sweet ash. Some sweet candyish notes. Coke-colored pour with a sudsy tan head. Thin body, lightly ashy and herby-smooth, those dark toffee notes still there with faint ash around the edges, a little red berry and, despite the hint of stale, woody air, tastes very fresh and light, a good Dunkel.

Bottle enjoyed at home
Dark brown, black in glass, thin tanned head. Aroma of grass, caramel and burned malts, also hints of coffee. Taste has some coffee, medium malt body and good sweetness. Palate is not all that pleasent. Thin feel and also too watery. Finish has some malt bitterness but i miss some hops

Koelschtrinker (6544) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 17, 2011
Test vom 23.7.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,13,13,12,10,12 - 12,10

Bottle, as Gösser Dark Beer. A dark copper colored beer with a small, dense, beige head. The aroma has a semi-pleasant blend of coffee and butterscotchy maltyness. Hints of dark chocolate too. The flavor has too much butterscotch and diacetyl, along with coffee, chocolate and caramel. Quite dry in the mouth, a bit sweetish sticky, and pleasantly carbonated. Medium body. Well, what can I say? It’s not bad, but it’s not my preferred choice of dunkel, and it doesn’t taste too good either. I think I’d go for an easier drinkable pale lager instead. 110523
