COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness. 11.8°

nearly opaque mahogany with a few bubbles on top; Medium body with medium-high carbonation.

Aroma: sweet bready dark malt, woody tobacco hops, mild alcohol, and hints of dark fruit.

Taste: very mild, some dark-roasted grainy malt, mineral water, hints of cola and sweet coffee,, and just enough hop bitterness to balance.

Draft in Salzburg, Austria. As ’Gosser Schwarzbier’. Very dark beer with a frothy head. Smooth and light - not at all bitter. Very gentle coffee malt notes and distinct walnuts. Smooth dry finish. Lovely fresh tasty beer.

Drank as Gösser Dark. Cola-like colour. Strong aroma, with fresh hops and a bit of roasty and caramel notes. Very full taste. The first impression is caramelly dryness, then hoppiness with a bit of malt and finally the roasty bitterness in the aftertaste.

Smells of roasted malt, coffee and grass. There is also some yeast but roasted aroma dominate. Mouthfeel is creamy, little watery with light carbonation. This beer I could easly find and when I like to drink black beer this one I choose.

Dark brown color, big beige head. Caramel aroma with notes of honey. Creamy palate with medium body, no carbonation to mention. Strong chocolate flavor is cut nicely by biting hops. Nice lace in glass, chocolate taste lasts long. Dimensional world class dunkel for my taste!

Dunkel Lite, perhaps? Nonetheless, this is a solid yet subtle example of the Dunkel style. Very drinkable- slight molasses in the finish with a light carbonated mouthfeel throughout. A good session Dunkel, if there ever was one. Recommended.

This is a great dunkel. Very rich in flavor, but not overpowering. Very flavorful for a not so high alcohol beer.

I had this on tap at a German beerhall style restaurant. A very good dark beer with a nearly black color and a slight aroma of dark chocolate. An enjoyable almost sweet taste of dark roasted chocolate and caramel but a mildly bitter aftertaste. And like I said, this goes great with spatzle and wiener schnitzel.

Green, 12oz bottle. Brown cap. Why is it called stifts? Is it STRONGER than the Export. No, it is not.
Brown color, light tan, tall creamy head. Aroma of cocoa. Yum. Flavor of roasted barley. Very yum. It has a very smooth, creamy body. Nice flavor of burnt grains, light chocolate. Most of all, I think I found my new favorite Dunkel. Yum 28 april 2010. 8,5,6,5,13
