SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUN 24, 2006
On tap at the 2006 Nebraska Craftbrewers Festival. Pours an orange amber with a slightly off-white head. The head is very creamy. Has an odd burnt coffee aroma. The beer also has a slight photosensitized problem. Flavor is also detectably skunked. Tea-like flavor, but most of what you get is the flavor of over-roasted malt for the style. It’s as though they took a really low Lovibond malt and roasted the hell out of it instead of mildly toasting it. Significant carbonation bubbles. The hop bitterness is pronounced at the end and this is very nice. The poor palate hurts the rating- just too roasted. Takes awhile to get the bitterness off your tongue. No aroma hops emerge, no citrus or flavoring hops, just a tongue-bending buring aftertaste. No lacing.
