COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Also available from Wetherspoons in casks.
"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Bottle at home. Hazy amber colour. Aromas of sweet malt, caramel, some berries, spices, oak and hint of alcohol. Touch of sweet malt also in the mouth, and sweet fruit towards plums. Oak and alcohol towards the end. Round mouthfeel and a soft bitterness. A nice and well-balanced belgian strong ale. The sweet caramelly malt flavour on its best.

500ml caged cork bottle. The Ambrio is light brown with lots of co2 moving though an inactive suspension. Yeast, off-sour fruits and alcohol fill the nose. Tastes pretty sweet and tart with alcohol present in the finish. Dry, tannin laden aftertaste. Medium body. Pretty good but still the low rung on the Carolus ladder.

33cl bottle. Hazy brown colour with a good formation of tan head. Good lacework. Aroma is yeasty, sweet and with dry fruits hints. Flavour has slightly vinous traces, bready and sweet at the beginning and a final moderate bittery. Carbonation is lively. Body is medium to high.

A beautiful, slightly red, copperbrown beer with a big, long-lasting, beige head, that is still growing after 15 minutes after pouring. An aroma is quite sweet, fruitfull and aromatic, strawberries, oranges, herbs and slightly earthy sourness; very complex aroma. A taste is fruitfull, spyciness, orange sourness and herbal bitterness, that makes the taste an almost dry. Medium bodied, lots of carbonation that is quite balanced, fresh to drink and even a big bottle is drained easily. Very balanced beer again from Gouden Carolus, complex and tastefull beer.

Amber ale met een licht fruitige smaak, zachte smaak, gekarameliseerde mout dat je proeft maar die beetje overschaduwd wordt door de hop. Zeer licht bittere nasmaak.
