"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Amber ale met een licht fruitige smaak, zachte smaak, gekarameliseerde mout dat je proeft maar die beetje overschaduwd wordt door de hop. Zeer licht bittere nasmaak.

330ml brown bottle. Pours out a carmel brown colour, appears to be unfilitered. Thick frothy light beige head with great retention and nice lacing rings in the glass. Nose is malty with some upfront sweetness, light caramel, some spices. Taste is malty as well, big toastiness, caramel, grains, notes of orangey citrusy hops and a streak of grassy hops as well. Finishes dry, grassy hops linger, nice bitterness, light yeast notes. Medium bodied, pleasant mouthfeel with persistent carbonation. Nice depth on this one, great drinkability. Much more satisfying than I had anticipated. Another solid Het Anker beer.

Ambrio pours out a light leathery brown with a fully cloudy and opaque body, a thick beaige head leaves truly impressive lacing rings. The nose is sweet and fruity with a nice malt character and a note of alcohol. Sweet, dessert like raisins, prunes, plums and figs. The taste is sweet in the middle with the same darker fruits and a nice caramel malt. Bready and toffeed with a hint of spices with a lightly hopped finish. A warming alcohol and a lightly astringent spice and fruit aftertaste. Ambrio has a full body with a nice and creamy taste. Overall, a very nice ’dubbel’ style brew.

pours a beautiful chestnut colour, with an off white head, and a grassy herbal aroma. taste is vanilla, spices and bitter hops. leaves quite a sticky palate, with a long finish. its quite herbal and aromatic, but not overly drinkable, and not overly exceptional.

Hazy darker amber coloured beer with medium white head and lots of carbonation. Fruity malty aroma with a hoppy touch. Full creamy palate. Finish is roasted malty with some sour hints. Nice one.

Bottle brought back to Bonn from Het Anker. Hazy amber pour with a huge, off-white head. Lasting and lacy. Frothy. White grape in the nose with some light caramel and cherry. A little vanilla and cinnamon also come through. Bigger vanilla upon the first swig followed by some allspice and star anise. Touch of pepper. Medium bodied and highly carbonated. Sweet with a dry finish. Lingering pitted fruit and warming alcohol. Super tasty!

Beautiful deep reddish brown color with a big stable head. Malty, rich aroma of forest berries, honey, and spices. Big taste that’s a little drier than you’d expect from the smell, an alcoholic bite, and somewhat unbalanced feel. Decent palate but not that impressive. It’s a little less "drinkable" than they claim, but still great if you’re a fan of the style.

Bottle pours cloudy reddish brown with foamy white head. Aroma is apricot, white grape, bread, toffee, pepper. Somewhat acidic bite on top of creamy malt body provides a hint of sourness. Long lasting aftertaste. I was pleasantly surprised with this one.

33cl bottle. Pours amber with a huge white head. Smells nutty, abit sour and alcohole. Tastes sweet, malty and alcohol with a similar finish.
