"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Reddish amber colour with good white head. Aroma of banana and berries. It is slightly vinious in taste but maintains a spicyness and full body that leaves a good impression.

Cask (handpump), Shakespeares Head (JDW), Holborn. The now customary special Belgian cask beer at a Spoons festival and I thought it worked very well in cask format. So well that I would have had a pint, except that they will only sell it by the half (which is probably just as well as I was beginning to feel a bit wobbly by this time anyway). Soft and creamy - so easy to drink. Enough hops to stop it becoming too sickly, lots of jammy fruit and fat malt and flowery perfume. Warming and slightly spicy. It may be relatively straightforward in Belgian terms but I thought it was delicious. Not sure I’d call it a barley wine though.

Amber appearance and poured with a big head. Some nutiness and traces of spices.Strong alcohol presence. I am not a great fan of this style but this is a reasonable example. Wouldn’t try it again though.

Bottle. White lasting head. Unclear amber body. Fruity aroma. The bitterness is dominante but not too much or unpleasant.

Pours cobber with a slightly taned diminnishing head. Smells slightly cheesy. Medium sweet- and sourness with aromas of dark fruits. Spicy notes. A hint of wood. Slightly winish - champagne in the beginning. When it "ages" in the glass it develops banana notes and hints of sulphur. Also some portlike qualities. Full bodied. Long dry finish.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm) Colour is dark amber (surprise) with little head. Rather closed nose with spicy hints. Taste is spicy and malty with caramel and wild berries (blackberries, raspberries) and a rather dry bitter finish. Nice and well made but not the best from the brewey.

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy amber color ale with a huge foamy white head with good retention. Aroma of light caramel malt with the usual yeast presence. Taste is mostly dominated by some caramel malt, light spices and light bitter finish. Very good for the style but still nothing special that would make me crave for this again.

Bottle. Hazy orange colour with a tan head. Malty fruity aroma with hints of caramel. Sweet malty and fruity flavor with some hints of spices. Sweet malty aftertaste.
