COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Also available from Wetherspoons in casks.
"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Bottle from Bert’s Bierhuis. The beer has an amber color and a large tinted white head, with a lot of bubbles. The aroma is caramel, malts, yeast, fruits and hops. The taste is full and spicy and after a while it’s fresh. Tones from malts, a little bitterness from the hops and spices. Different taste are well balanced. The finish is fresh, dry and a little bitter. Not as good as the other ones from Carolus, but they also show with this beer that brewing is their speciality. Bravo!

Very dark amber/brown color. An impressive and complex beer. The flavor has layers and layers of sugar, yet without coming across as cloying. Caramel, toffee, molasses, creme brulee, a bit of burnt toast, and some dark fruits which taste very fresh. Heavy, full palate. An apertif type of beer.

Slightly hazy, dark amber body with huge, beige, very long-lived head that settles as a layer that laces the glass excellently. Quite strong aroma of Belgian yeast, sweet fruits, spices, light candi sugar, with dark dried fruits in the back and hints of sweet caramel. Strong flavour that follows the aroma, but with more noticeable sweet caramel. Moderate to light sweet and light to moderate bitter taste. Mid-bodied and quite dry with too much carbonation initially, but when the excess carbonation has been swirled away, the overall mouthfeel is very pleasant. A nice one!

Warka do 14.11.2014, wiec miesiac po terminie. Piana bardzo obfita, niby prawie natychmiastowo opada, ale zostawia gruba warstwe i troche koronkuje. Kolor krwisto-miedziany, lekko zmetnione. W aromacie niesamowicie intensywne maliny, lekkie wisnie, nuty szampanskie, ciemnego cukru, takze lekkie akcenty ziolowego i kwiatowego chmielu, po czasie wychodza nuty przyprawowe, korzenne, damskich perfum, landrynek, suszonych sliwek, a nastepnie kopru, lubczyka, sosu sojowego i gotowanej fasolki szparagowej, nawet jezeli to DMS, to w bardzo przyjemnym wydaniu. W smaku to cale bogactwo aromatow ustepuje, i mamy wlasciwie zwyklego, solidnego Belga, przyprawowego, owocowego, winnego, z delikatna, opiekana slodowoscia i ciemnym cukrem. W odczuciu gladkie, nisko wysycone.

Bottle from DON store in Kuzuha. Yeasty nose, with caramelized brown sugar, honey, spice. Reddish-brown, heavy off-white head, and very thick lace. Very fruity initial, solid malt, light herbs, and a sort of mulled wine note from the spice. Medium-heavy body. Very tasty. A lot going on here.

Not bad but doesn’t come close to some of the other beers these guys carry. A little honey sweetness and syrupy sense here. Pours hazy maroon with puffy head and good lacing. Some booze and a little rust. Sweet finish. Bottle.

Nice and hazy brown beer. Good and creamy but is well balanced by some carbonation an a bit of sourness as well.

330 mL bottle from SoHo Organic Market, Elizabeth City, NC. Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops, damp malt, and light Belgian yeast. Clean taste that is mostly fruity but is moderately spiced which adds some complexity. Alcohol is well-hidden. A nicely done Belgian strong ale.

75 cl. champagne-flaske. 8,0 %. Skal symbolisere det røde i Belgiens flag. Rødlig i farven. Smager dejligt.
